Job Summary

The Team
The Central Coast team covers two main communities in beautiful mountainous Bella Coola and Coastal Bella Bella and outlying communities. The team consists of 9 team members including a Team Leader, Office Manager, 2 Team Assistants and Generalist Workers who are in the role of Child Safety Workers, Guardianship Workers, and Family Service Workers . This hard working, experienced and committed team work closely with the local Indigenous Nations and promote and develop the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth. This crucial work positively contributes to communities and makes a meaningful impact on the families and children we serve and support.

The Role:
The Child Protection Worker, 7 on 7 off ensures the safety of children and youth through assessment and collaboration with families Nations, and communities. They receive, assess, and respond to concerns of child abuse and neglect by interviewing parents, children, and youth, assessing strengths and needs, working with appropriate agencies, developing safety plans with family members and the care team, and determining if children or youth are in need of protection. Your work will have a profound effect on local families, by helping to provide the necessary support and protection for children and youth, working closely with the Indigenous communities and Indigenous Child and Family Service Agencies, and being on the front line of jurisdictional changes. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

1. Preferred Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.


2. Expanded Credentials:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree witha Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience..
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.


Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in child protection and/or child welfare.
  • Currently hold full delegation (C6), of immediately eligible upon being hired to obtain full delegation (C6) under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

About this Position:

This position has full time on-site requirement.
This position is on travel status.
The position will be providing services in Bella Bella, Bella Coola Kelmtu and your home and/or headquarter will be located in the lower mainland (or equally cost effective location).
This position will work on a travelling schedule working seven (7) days in the office followed by seven (7) days of rest at their home location (home location is defined as your usual place of residence). Travel to and from the community offices will occur within the scheduled work days.
This position is not eligible for Isolation Allowance or Retention Incentive Programs
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.
