Job Summary
The Team
The Williams Lake Integrated Services team consists of multiple teams and disciplines, including three established Child Protection teams. These teams range in size from 6-9 members, and are made up of Team Leaders, Child Safety Workers, Guardianship Workers, Family Service Workers and a Collaborative Planning and Decision Making Coordinator. The Child Protection teams work collaboratively with multiple teams including Child Safety, Family Service, Child and Youth Mental Health, Child and Youth with Support Needs and Youth Probation. These hard working, experienced and committed teams display an incredible team approach to their work promoting and developing the capacity of families and communities to care for and protect vulnerable children and youth, and supports healthy child and family practices. This crucial work contributes to our community and makes meaningful impact for the families and children we serve.
The Role
The Child Protection Worker, 7 on 7 off specializes in developing plans with families to ensure the safety of children and youth through assessment and collaboration. They receive, assess, and respond to concerns of child abuse and neglect by interviewing parents, children, and youth, assessing strengths and needs, working with appropriate agencies, developing safety plans, and determining if children or youth are in need of protection. Your work will have a profound effect on local families, by helping to provide the necessary support and protection for children and youth, working closely with the Indigenous communities and ICFSAs, and being on the front line of jurisdictional changes. This is an incredible opportunity to serve a rural and remote community while maintaining your home residence. The 7 on 7 off position is unique in its hours and travel status. The position will be providing services in Williams Lake and your home and/or headquarter will be located in the lower mainland (or equally cost effective location).
This position will work on a travelling schedule working seven (7) days in the office followed by seven (7) days of rest at their home location (home location is defined as your usual place of residence). Travel to and from the community offices will occur within the scheduled work days.
This position is not eligible for Isolation Allowance or Retention Incentive Programs

Education and Experience Requirements
1. Preferred Credentials:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
- In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
- A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
- NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
2. Expanded Credentials:
- Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor's Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master's level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor's Degree.
- PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience..
- NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

- Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
- Two (2) or more years of experience in child protection and/or child welfare.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).
