Job Summary

The Team

The Court Administration team at Vancouver Law Courts (VLC) consists of 45 dedicated professionals who provide essential in-court services, including adjudication support. As part of this established team, you'll work closely with the judiciary, members of the bar, lay litigants, and court registry staff to ensure BC citizens have timely and impartial access to justice. The team is known for being hard-working and supportive, embodying a true spirit of collaboration.

The Role

As a Court Clerk, you'll play a key role in supporting courtroom operations by performing pre-court, in-court, and post-court duties, such as assisting the presider, logging key court events and managing exhibits. Your work ensures that the public's right to fair and impartial justice is upheld, making this a highly impactful role. This dynamic position offers the security of knowing that your contributions are essential and always in demand by both the employer and the public.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (e.g. GED).
  • 2 years office experience; OR
  • 1 year of office experience and a minimum of 1 year education/training in a legal related field.
  • Experience/training in keyboarding, data entry, word processing and standard computer applications.
  • Minimum of 40 words per minute (WPM) in keyboarding.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Experience delivering customer service.
  • Experience as a court clerk and/or registry clerk
  • Experience with JUSTIN and/or CEIS.

Provisos:
  • Attendance and completion of relevant training is required
  • May be required to work flexible hours, including varied shifts and overtime on short notice
  • May be required to travel, including travel in adverse weather conditions and work in other geographical areas, including circuit court locations. Must have reliable transportation and/or be willing to travel with others
