The Team
The Vernon Fire Zone team is a well-established group of 57 dedicated professionals committed to wildfire management and prevention. You'll collaborate with a diverse group of roles, including Wildfire Technicians, Assistants, and Crew Leaders, fostering strong connections and teamwork. The Role
As a Wildfire Technician in the Vernon Fire Zone, you will play a vital role in fire response and management, helping to keep our communities safe and resilient. Your work will focus on key areas such as wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery, making a real difference in the lives of the citizens of British Columbia. This position offers the chance to be part of a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment, where you can engage in meaningful work that directly benefits your community. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Degree in a field related to forestry, resource management plus 1 year recent related* experience; OR
  • Technical diploma in a field related to forestry, resource management, plus 3 years recent related* experience; OR
  • Grade 12 plus 5 years related* experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and training; AND
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience; AND
  • Valid class 5 drivers license or equivalent.

*Related experience is defined as operations or other disciplines related to natural resource management.

Preference may be given to candidates with:
  • Incident Command 4 or higher

Willingness statements:
  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for position to meet operational requirements.

Vernon is Surrounded by rolling grasslands with rocky outcrops and stands of ponderosa pine and Douglas fir, its three lakes and mountain views in every direction command attention. Nature remains Vernon's biggest asset. Famous champagne powder at Silver Star Mountain Resort, just 22km/13mi from downtown, attracts skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers and snowmobilers. In summer, countless hiking and cycling trails to explore every area from the historic Grey Canal within the city to the nearby provincial parks and the rugged Monashee Mountain Range. Mountain biking is also a big draw at Silver Star.
