Job Summary

The Team
The South Coast Region Indigenous Relations Team is an established and growing team of 12 dedicated professionals who work with 93 First Nations across the Fraser Valley, Lower Mainland, Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands. This team plays a vital role in ensuring that First Nations' interests are integrated into various ministry projects, including highway enhancements, transit developments, and major infrastructure projects like the Surrey Langley Skytrain and Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program. By contributing to the province's duty to consult and advancing reconciliation efforts, the team helps build meaningful relationships, promote cultural understanding, and support economic and environmental opportunities. The Role
The Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations is responsible for managing consultations and resolving concerns related to highway projects that impact Indigenous groups. This includes overseeing the reconciliation of highway right of way through reserve lands, managing budgets, contracts, appraisals, and ensuring compliance with both Provincial and Federal processes. You'll be involved in high-stakes projects that require balancing legal, economic, and cultural considerations while working closely with Indigenous communities. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact, work on a variety of complex projects, and contribute to reconciliation efforts in a meaningful way.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Degree in resource management or equivalent AND a minimum of 3 years of related experience; OR,
  • A relevant diploma AND a minimum of 5 years of *related experience; OR,
  • A relevant certificate AND a minimum of 7 years of *related experience.

*Related experience should include:
  • Experience in participating and/or leading the consultation process with Indigenous groups.
  • Experience in negotiating agreements and settlements with Indigenous groups.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and negotiations.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, historical highway right of way, resource management, social or economic development issues.


Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
  • Operational Experience with highway infrastructure
  • Experience with property acquisition, contract services, and tenure related negotiations
