Job Summary

The Team
The Squamish Child and Youth Mental Health team is a small but expanding team of Clinicians who provide direct counselling and case management support to children, youth and their families who are struggling with moderate to severe mental illness. The team currently consists of 4.6 Clinicians and has access to team Doctors for their clients. The CYMH team is co-located with other Ministry of Children and Family Development service teams such as Social Work and Youth Probation.

The Role
A CYMH Clinician has a key role in assessing and developing a treatment plan for their client. A CYMH Clinician is often in a position of supporting a young person and their family, from a time of crisis and difficulty to a time of achieving their goals and celebration. The role not only involves 1-1 counselling services to the client, it also includes consultation with other professionals such as hospital personnel, Foundry Personnel, Psychiatry, Medical Doctors, schools, and other support networks. The CYMH Clinician role also runs groups (i.e. EFFT Caregiver Support Group, Dialectical Behaviour Skills group, Connect, Anxiety Skills Group, ADHD Information Group) throughout the year according to need.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Masters in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master's level in a similar subject may be considered.
    • NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • Minimum of one year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Two years or more experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
