Job Summary
The Team
The Interior East Kootenay Youth Justice team is a dedicated and evolving group of experienced Youth Probation Officers committed to supporting youth and their families. With staff members based in Williams Lake, Cranbrook, Merritt, and Kamloops, this team collaborates closely with Crown Counsel, RCMP, court staff, social workers, and various community partners, including Indigenous communities and First Nation Court elders. Since 2023, the team has grown in both size and expertise, demonstrating a strong commitment to making a positive impact. They value dedication to youth and families, as well as mutual support and teamwork, including fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment.
The Role
Your work as a Youth Probation Officer will directly impact the lives of young people in the Williams Lake/ 100 Mile House area. In this role, you will collaborate with community partners to provide comprehensive support to youth and their families. You will support youth in adhering to their conditions while promoting community safety and rehabilitation. You will have an opportunity to make a tangible difference, striving to meet the needs of youth and reduce the risk of re-offending through innovative programs. This position will inspire you to advocate for young offenders, helping them accept responsibility for their actions and arranging essential resources and programs.

About this Position:
One (1) regular part time position (0.5 FTE, 35 hours biweekly) available.
This position is located in Williams Lake and is required to travel to other locations in the Williams Lake catchment area.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.

An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and/or future permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.

In addition to the re-imbursement of relocation costs (where applicable), the incentive program provides the following:

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services* or Social Sciences field (including History, Political Science, etc.)
- NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
*Human Services field includes: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Experience (preferably 1 year or more) working as an Adult Probation Officer or a Fully Delegated Youth Probation Officer.
- Experience (preferably within the last 5 years) in a justice, educational or social service setting that involves the supervision of young people or adults.
- Experience (preferably within the last 5 years) in justice, educational or social service setting that involves supervision, counselling or conflict resolution.
- Experience (within the past 5 years) working with High Risk or At Risk youth ages 12-18.
- Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
Please note:
- Applicants may be considered who have not yet graduated but have completed all required courses and are able to provide a letter from their educational institution confirming completion of degree requirements.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
