Job Description

Diverse, fulfilling, and well-rounded tax role within a complex, global, and public company with growing operations. This is a fantastic career opportunity for someone who wants to work for a dynamic company with ambitious growth plans. Opportunity to build out the North American tax function here in Vancouver, and to develop over the years.  Excellent corporate culture. Very competitive total compensation package. Based in downtown Vancouver, hybrid work schedule. Open to qualified candidates who want to relocate to Vancouver (must already be eligible to legally live and work in Canada).

Who- the Company:
Our client is a successful and innovative company working in a very interesting industry at the intersection of energy and technology. The North American head office is located in Vancouver and the global headquarters is based overseas.

What- the Opportunity:
On behalf of our client, SWIM is seeking a Senior Tax Analyst. This is a senior role and could be called Manager in other organizations given the scope of responsibilities (it’s just not yet the titling convention for this role at this company- but the compensation is reflective of Manager level). This is a very well-rounded tax role involving tax planning, global tax risk, analyzing large-scale projects for tax costs, tax filings and compliance, monitoring corporate governance requirements, etc.

Who- the Candidate:

  • Public Practice- Training in a multinational public practice firm is required.
  • Industry- Experience working in a corporate office (HQ or subsidiary office) of a global public company is preferred, not required.
  • At least 3 years and ideally 5+ years progressive experience in taxation
  • Experience in both US and Canadian tax is preferred (the more provinces and the more states, the better!). Candidates who have only Cdn OR US will still be considered, as long as willing and able to quickly ramp-up on taxation knowledge for the other country.
  • CPA accounting designation (or International equivalent) is required.
  • Pursuit or completion of the In-depth Tax Course and/or a Master’s Degree in Tax is a significant asset.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance.
  • Systems: High level of proficiency in Excel is required, including financial modeling skills. Experience using a cloud-based financial system and tax preparation software.
  • There are a lot of deadlines to juggle in this role; therefore, excellent time management and organizational skills along with a process improvement mindset are all crucial.
  • Top-notch communication skills are important- ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders across many countries.

Where:
Based out of a corporate office in downtown Vancouver, conveniently accessible by public transit and close to many amenities and shops. Hybrid work model available- at least 3 days a week in the office (likely 4 days during initial training and onboarding) and 1-2 days a week from home. The Senior Tax Analyst must have some flexibility on their work hours to hit deadlines and also to communicate & collaborate with colleagues working in various time zones. We are open to qualified candidates who want to relocate to Vancouver and some form of relocation support will be provided. Candidates must already be eligible to legally live and work in Canada, and able to relocate to Vancouver within 2 to 4 weeks’ of an offer.

How Much:
This company offers a highly competitive total compensation package! Base salary commensurate with level of skills, experience, and education, likely in the range of $110,000-$134,000. Please note that the top end is reserved for candidates who have not only the requirements, but also many of the “nice-to-have” qualifications. There may be wiggle room beyond $134,000 for highly qualified candidates (for example, candidates recently promoted to Senior Manager level in a Big 4 firm or who already have several years of industry experience in tax on top of years in public practice).

The company offers a robust overall compensation package including an annual performance-based bonus, an attractive long-term incentive plan (LTIP) with a reasonable vesting timeline, CPA and professional development support, competitive health benefits and an RRSP match.
