Overview:
Join Our Team as a Project Accountant
This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate financial monitoring and reconciliation across all project-related activities. By closely tracking costs, WIP, inventory, sales, and production activities, the Project Accountant will play a key role in maintaining financial discipline and supporting successful project delivery.
What You’ll Do:
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Monitoring & Control:
- Track, analyze, and report on costs related to individual projects, ensuring that expenditures are accurately recorded against budgeted amounts.
- Work closely with operational and project teams to ensure accurate and timely capture of all project-related costs.
- Prepare regular cost reports, highlighting project financial status, variances, and recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Work In Progress (WIP) Monitoring:
- Maintain and update WIP schedules to ensure all project costs are correctly classified and reported.
- Support the reconciliation of WIP at month-end, ensuring proper matching of costs and revenue, and identifying any discrepancies or adjustments needed.
- Inventory/Production Reconciliation:
- Manage and reconcile inventory for projects, ensuring that Production Reports matches financial records.
- Conduct periodic stock counts and work with the project team to address any discrepancies or variances.
- Support the preparation of Production reports reconciliation, comparing actual production to forecasts, and provide financial insights into any discrepancies.
- Sales Reconciliation:
- Reconcile sales transactions for specific projects, ensuring that all revenue from product sales is accurately recorded.
- Ensure that sales invoices are generated in a timely manner and reflect accurate costs and margins.
- Contractor and Vendor Cost Tracking:
- Oversee the tracking and reconciliation of contractor costs, ensuring proper invoicing and contract compliance.
- Ensure fees in lieu payments are tracked, documented, and reconciled in accordance with contractual terms and project agreements.
- Maintain a comprehensive record of all contractor-related expenses and report any discrepancies.
- Project Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and present detailed Project Report for individual projects, summarizing cost performance, WIP status, sales, inventory, and production results.
- Assist in the preparation of budget updates and financial forecasts based on actual performance and evolving project conditions.
- Operational Support & Collaboration:
- Act as a key point of contact for all financial matters related to specific projects, working closely with project managers, and operational teams.
- Provide financial advice and support during project planning and execution phases to ensure cost-effective management of project resources.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure that all project accounting activities comply with internal accounting policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in audits, financial reviews, and project performance evaluations as required.
- Process Improvement & Efficiency:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within project accounting and reconciliation procedures.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA, or similar) is an asset.
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in project accounting or cost management, ideally within natural resources industries.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks online) and advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial reporting).
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and interpret financial data and identify trends or issues.
