Overview

The Prevention Business Product Management department of WorkSafeBC is looking for a highly motivated, dynamic, innovative Prevention Business Product Management student co- op to join our team to help us strive towards our mission of keeping workplaces healthy and safe for British Columbians.

Part of the Prevention Division, the Prevention Business Product Management team plays a crucial role in supporting and leading innovative cross-divisional efforts to deliver technology solutions that address both current and future needs in Prevention Services. This involves providing leadership in executing key projects to ensure alignment with the strategic objectives of Prevention Services and WorkSafeBC. We are responsible for maintaining a backlog of initiatives and smaller enhancements, as well as planning and maintaining a roadmap for delivery. We act as custodians of the Prevention systems, ensuring that any new changes are thoroughly tested and accepted to maintain operational stability. Additionally, we provide business user and system support for the usage of Prevention systems and post-implementation of changes.

This is an eight-month full-time positions starting in January 2025.

How you'll make a difference

In this role, you will be engaged in real-life projects that directly support our mission statement of keeping British Columbians safe from injury and illness in the workplace.

From Day 1, you will embark on an engaging journey through the Division, rotating among different teams to understand how their functions interconnect. You will participate in a structured onboarding process that includes shadowing colleagues, engaging in self-paced learning, and collaborating with team members to grasp the division's business impact.

Throughout the first week, you will have the opportunity to partner with your manager to delve into impactful projects that align with divisional targets, specifically focusing on the prevention mandate and its role in protecting the lives of workers across British Columbia.

This immersive experience will help you build a solid foundation in the business, occupational health and safety and product management spheres; developing a solid understanding of how technology and business interact with one another.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you'll work primarily from your home and be on-site in our Richmond office at a minimum of once per week or based on operational needs.

What you'll do
  • Gather and analyze business requirements from a broad variety of stakeholders (e.g., senior management, line management and staff),
  • Participate in user story and acceptance criteria development and documentation review,
  • Participate in the phases of system development, testing cycle & sprint planning,
  • Identify system bugs pre and post system implementation,
  • Participate or bring recommendations to improve business processes,
  • Assist project teams in analyzing and documenting business processes impacted by new systems or system enhancements.
  • Assisting with the development of training materials and providing training for new products along with assisting with business change management activities.
  • Assist our internal Innovation and business teams to develop new innovative solutions to help solve complex business problems, including leveraging AI.

  • Analytical mindset, Project Management and Business Analysis skills;
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to wide variety of tasks and functions;
  • Demonstrate strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills with the ability to adapt to change;
  • Work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a high volume, team environment;
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally;
  • Curious and driven to learn, passion for researching, testing and adapting new technologies;
  • Review and understand how to work through large sets of data

Your background and experience
  • 3rd or 4th year student, enrolled in business administration (BBA), computer science or computer engineering, project management or similarly related program,
  • An interest in the field of or courses related to Occupational Health and Safety & Hygiene would be a nice to have
  • Previous internship/coop experience or specialization in any of the following: Consulting, Strategy, Technology, Innovation,
  • Academic level or working knowledge in the following areas would be an asset: project management (agile methodologies), business analysis, facilitation, research, technology adoption & implementation or change management,
  • Strong experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite
