Overview

The Assessments department of WorkSafeBC is looking for four Assessments Co-op students to join our team to help us strive towards our vision.

The co-op students will assist the Assessments department in a variety of functions including validating and collecting email addresses. This is a eight-month temporary opportunity starting in January 2025.

How you'll make a difference: You'll apply what you've learned in your post-secondary program to benefit workers and employers across B.C.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you'll work primarily from our Richmond office.

What you'll do

On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.

During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip you for success. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager to discuss your goals and align them with the team's vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization's mandate. You will also work through the onboarding program alongside your supervisor for added guidance and support.

This role is ideal for an individual who is eager to step beyond their comfort zone. We are looking for someone with a detective mindset, strong motivation, and a passion for innovation. The right candidate will possess analytical and critical thinking skills, enabling them to propose ideas that enhance various processes and initiatives, as well as to explore new approaches to work within the department.
  • Review Reports: Check reports for incorrect contact details or missing email addresses. Contact employers or research online to find accurate information, enhancing future email campaigns and managing return mail, helping the department in its transition to paperless communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Projects: Ad hoc project work to help drivedifferent department initiatives during which you will have an extraordinary opportunity to contribute ideas that would lead to improvements to the department initiatives.
  • Data Entry Integrity & Support: Help with entering data into customized account management systems and maintaining data integrity.
  • Excel Usage: Use Microsoft Excel to gather and monitor data.

  • Use strong analytical skills to review data and information.
  • Quickly learn multiple computer programs.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to a wide variety of tasks and functions.
  • Demonstrate strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and an above average degree of accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.

Your background and experience
  • Enrolled in a Business Administration or IT related program
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite, including Excel and Word
  • Previous co-op or relevant work experience in an office environment is preferred
