VIU invites applications to the temporary full-time role of Operations Manager, tiwšɛmawtxʷ a vital role at our tiwšɛmawtxʷ Campus.

About the Role

As a key member of the tiwšɛmawtxʷ  Campus leadership team, and reporting directly to the Campus Administrator, you will oversee the day-to-day operations, administrative functions, and academic programming offered by VIU in the qathet region. Working collaboratively with local instructors and staff as well as departments, faculties, and service units at the Nanaimo and Cowichan campuses, the Operations Manager ensures alignment between tiwšɛmawtxʷ  Campus activities and VIU's regional mandate to deliver high-quality post-secondary opportunities that meets local educational and professional needs. This position also contributes to the implementation of strategic priorities and meets with community partners and stakeholders as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an appropriately accredited institution. 
  • Minimum 10 years' administrative experience at a senior executive/administrative level. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Extensive experience in troubleshooting and decision-making, as well as the knowledge and confidence to make decisions and communicate them to a variety of stakeholders on behalf of the Campus Administrator.
  • Ability to sort through complex information and address emerging issues, some of which are sensitive in nature, and the experience, knowledge, and confidence to determine what needs to be addressed and/or to make a decision. Capacity to work in an environment that includes new initiatives where process and procedures must be developed.
  • Proven ability to act with integrity, exercising tact and diplomacy in interactions with various stakeholders, both internal and external. Initiative and the ability to exercise judgment and provide proactive leadership with minimal supervision. Ability to be flexible and able to balance a variety of tasks and competing timelines.
  • Demonstrated financial literacy as it relates to budget preparation and management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to manage and process confidential and sensitive material in a professional manner. Ability to deal with difficult situations and/or conversations with tact and diplomacy, using sound judgment.
Salary Information:
  • Excluded Pay Band 9: Minimum salary is $96,295 and maximum salary is $109,426.
  • Normal salary placement at the time of hire is $96,295 (prorated if part-time). This position is eligible for annual performance-based salary increases.
