Job Summary

The Team
The Media Monitoring Unit is led by a Director and supported by two Senior Online Editors, alongside a dedicated group of Online Editors. Operating on varied schedules to provide 24/7 coverage, the team collaborates to deliver accurate, timely, and comprehensive media insights to key government stakeholders. Their expertise ensures critical issues are identified and communicated effectively.

The Role
Within the Media Monitoring Unit, this role involves analyzing and summarizing provincial and national media coverage to deliver timely insights on key issues to government stakeholders. Responsibilities include monitoring diverse media platforms, transcribing and editing content for accuracy, and maintaining the Media Monitoring Insights (MMI) platform. Working on a fixed early-morning schedule, this position is crucial for providing real-time, accurate updates on high-priority topics such as natural disasters, government initiatives, and economic developments.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Medical or Legal Transcription, English, or Grammar, AND at least 6 months of related transcription experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Professional experience in an administrative role.


Preference statements
  • A typing speed of 50 words per minute (wpm) or higher.
  • Experience translating spoken or written French, Punjabi, or Cantonese into English text.

About this Position:
The starting salary for this position is $68,500.00 - $73,150.00 annually, reflecting the fixed early-morning schedule (Monday to Friday from 3:30 AM to 11:30 AM) and the unique demands of the role. The final salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant education and experience.
This is for one (1) temporary opportunity that may become permanent or extended.
This competition is geographically restricted to Victoria.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
An eligibility list may be established for future temporary and/or permanent opportunities.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
This position is excluded from union membership.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
