Overview
Are you passionate about auditing a variety of financial and related documents? We are looking for an Assessment Officer in our Nanaimo office to act as a field representative for assessment matters and ensure all qualified employers with business activity in British Columbia are compliant in their self-reporting of assessment information to WorkSafeBC.
In this role, you'll assist employers within the Audit Section in adjusting assessments, performing industry classification reviews, as well as analyzing and interpreting registered employer's payroll reports.
How you'll make a difference: You'll help ensure B.C.'s workers' compensation system is properly funded so we can serve workers and employers now and in the future.

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

Salary: $44.88 - $48.47/hourly

What you'll do
- Review audit employer records to verify completeness and accuracy of reported payroll and industry classification information, and make adjustments where necessary
- Educate employers by providing information on assessment policy and practices
- Recommend changes to employers' remittance procedures to ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC policies
- Conduct classification reviews of either an employer or an industry group by reviewing accounting and related documents and/or physical inspection of the employer's operations
Is this a good fit for you?
We're looking for someone who can:
- Independently schedule, plan, and prioritize work assignments in a variety of geographical regions
- Present, explain, and document accounting information and decisions, both verbally and in writing, to individuals and groups with varying levels of understanding and education
- Build and maintain trusting and cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations
- Independently investigate, analyze, and resolve complex issues relating to financial and operational information to make sound, timely decisions in accordance with policies and legislation
- Maintain a high level of customer service
- Occasionally travel to remote locations for periods of up to one week at a time
Your background and experience
- A Bachelors Degree in related fields (e.g Accounting)
- Current member of Chartered Professional Accountants of BC (CPABC)
- A minimum of 24 months of directly related experience in financial auditing
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level
- A valid BC drivers' license
