Overview
The Assessments department of WorkSafeBC is looking for a Classification & Rate Modification Co-op student to join our team to assist with reviewing, maintaining, and updating industry classification.
If you are interested in applying your knowledge, gaining valuable experience, and making an impact on categorizing the industry classification, we want to hear from you. This is a four-month temporary opportunity starting in May 2025.
How you'll make a difference: You'll apply what you've learned in your post-secondary program to benefit workers and employers across B.C.
Where you'll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a model that combines the convenience of some remote work with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.
In this role, you'll work three or more days a week in our Richmond office.
What you'll do
On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.
During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip you for success. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager to discuss your goals and align them with the team's vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization's mandate. You will also work through the onboarding program alongside your supervisor for added guidance and support.
This role is ideal for an individual who is eager to step beyond their comfort zone. We are looking for someone with a detective mindset, strong motivation, and a passion for innovation. The right candidate will possess analytical and critical thinking skills, enabling them to propose ideas that enhance various processes and initiatives, as well as to explore new approaches to work within the department.

- Project: Review, research, analyze, and validate historical industry classification matrices to determine relevance and accuracy, as well as ensuring alignment with current industry standards. Update and organize relevant information into a structured and accessible spreadsheet.
- Team support: Ad hoc request to assist with creating presentation in preparation of meeting with external stakeholders
- Document maintenance: Help with organizing local area network (LAN) for the team and updating process documentation as required
- Excel Usage: Use Microsoft Excel to gather and monitor data.

Your background and experience
- Enrolled in a Business Administration or Statistics related program
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite, including Excel and Word
- Previous co-op or relevant work experience in an office environment is preferred
