Overview

Are you interested in applying your talents and knowledge and gaining valuable experience to support worker occupational health and safety? The Enterprise Programs and Strategic Research department of WorkSafeBC is looking for a Strategic Research Co-op student to join our team to help us strive towards our vision.

The student will support the Enterprise Programs and Strategic Research department in a range of tasks, including developing strategic foresight services, expanding our intelligence network, and contributing to knowledge management practices. This role involves collaborating with team members to build processes, gather insights, and assist with the creation of materials and reports. This is a four-month temporary opportunity, starting in May 2025.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a model that combines the convenience of some remote work with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you'll work three or more days a week in our Richmond office.

What you'll do

On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.

During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip you for success. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager to discuss your goals and align them with the team's vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization's mandate. You will also work through the onboarding program alongside your supervisor for added guidance and support.

This role is ideal for an individual who is eager to step beyond their comfort zone. We are looking for a proactive, motivated individual with a keen eye for detail and a passion for strategic development. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, helping to refine processes, expand our network, and contribute to the development of strategic foresight services.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic foresight services to guide long-term planning and decision-making, including contributing to the creation of WorkSafeBC materials by collecting information, preparing drafts, and presenting them for review.
  • Help expand and strengthen our intelligence network by conducting outreach and building relationships with external agencies
  • Contribute to knowledge management efforts by gathering information, developing templates, and supporting the creation of internal processes and products, in close collaboration with the operations team.
  • Draft reports, summaries, and materials for internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with team members to support process development, research, and project execution

  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and maintain a high degree of accuracy in preparing materials, reports, and network data.
  • Apply strong analytical skills to conduct research, synthesize findings, and translate complex information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with team members while also working independently, bringing creative ideas to the table and contributing to strategic initiatives.
  • Effectively organize information and monitor progress of work tasks.
  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrate initiative, self-motivation and an ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Quickly adapt to shifting priorities and changing deadlines.

Your background and experience
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's program, preferably an MBA.
  • Strong proficiency with databases and Microsoft Office software suite, including Excel and Word
  • Previous co-op or relevant work experience in an office environment is preferred
