Job Summary

The BC Human Rights Tribunal [Tribunal] is an independent quasi-judicial Tribunal established by the Human Rights Code [Code] to provide dispute resolution services in human rights matters. The Tribunal receives, mediates, and adjudicates complaints in human rights matters.

The Tribunal manages a high volume of records, both related to its internal operations and business process. Records are both physical and electronic. The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) enables the public to request and obtain copies of records held by the Tribunal when those records are not routinely available. The Tribunal receives requests for information under FOIPPA that it must manage within the context of its obligations to protect the privacy of staff and users of the Tribunal's services.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Documents and Freedom of Information Specialist [Specialist] maintains the Tribunal's documents in accordance with its Records and Information Management [RIM] policy, including classification, storage, security, inventory, retrieval and destruction of records, and serve as the Tribunal's Records Manager under that policy. The Specialist also manages a caseload of sometimes complex and contentious FOI requests for the Tribunal, providing timely responses to freedom of information (FOI) requests. The Specialist also analyzes, develops, and improves information access policies, procedures and processes.
