Job Summary

The Team

The Thompson Okanagan Water Allocation Team is a seasoned group of dedicated professionals spread across key locations in the region, including Merritt, Kamloops, Vernon, and Penticton. Led by the Water Allocation Section Head, this team comprises Senior Water Authorizations Specialists and Water Authorization Specialists who collaboratively guide water management decisions based on solid science and evidence-based policies. They play a crucial role in managing British Columbia's water resources, ensuring they are allocated wisely and sustainably while maintaining strong relationships with federal, local, and First Nations partners.

The Role

As a Water Authorizations Specialist within this established team, you will be at the forefront of evaluating and adjudicating water use applications, offering expert technical advice, and fostering valuable partnerships. This role significantly impacts how water resources are utilized, aiming to balance ecological needs with human demands. If you're passionate about advancing water management and contributing to First Nations reconciliation, this position offers a unique opportunity to apply your skills in a meaningful way while working alongside a committed and skilled team.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, & Designation:
• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in the natural resource management field, PLUS 2 years of related experience* working in natural resource management, OR
• Diploma in the natural resource management field, PLUS 3 years of related experience* working in natural resource management, OR
• An equivalent combination of education and related experience* may also be considered.

*Related experience includes the following:
• Experience working with natural resource management theories, legislation, practices, concepts and processes.

Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following:
• Recent (within the last 5 years) experience in BC with water allocation.
• Experience in consulting, negotiating and resolving conflicts with stakeholders in natural resource management.
• Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes (i.e. Water Sustainability Act) that support natural resource management relating to water allocation and management.
• Direct experience and/or education in hydrogeology and/or hydrology.
