Job Summary

The Team:
Our Haida Gwaii Field Team at BC Timber Sales' Chinook Business Area is a dedicated group of forest professionals committed to sustainable and responsible forestry operations on the beautiful Haida Gwaii island. The Role:
As an Operations Technologist with BC Timber Sales, you'll play a key role in sustainable forest management by developing operating standards, overseeing contract management, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Your work will have a direct impact on British Columbia's economy and quality of life, as BCTS revenue supports public initiatives like highways, schools, and healthcare. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Graduation from an approved technical institute with a diploma or degree in resource or forestry management and three years of experience in one or more operational field forestry activities, OR
  • An equivalent combination of education or experience such as five (5) years of experience in one (1) or more area of operational field forestry.

Operational field forestry activities include one (1) or more of the following:
  • Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
  • Cut-block development
  • Forest road engineering
  • Silviculture
  • Timber tenure development and administration
  • Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with the Forest Professionals British Columbia as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preferences may be given to candidates with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Preference may be given to applicants with three years of specific operational field-based forestry experience in silviculture.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with three years of specific forestry experience in one or more operational field-based forestry activities such as tenure development, road and block layout, or timber tenure administration.
  • Experience in contract or financial administration.

Provisos
  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
  • Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.

About this Position:
Amendment November 15: Salary information updated to include isolation allowance.
This position is located in Daajing Giids.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established for similar temporary and permanent vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Chinook Business Area (Daajing Giids).
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
