The Team

The Role
The Forest Technologist is responsible for helping develop and monitor operational forestry contracts. Work includes multi-phase timber development, engineering, preparing timber for auction, monitoring harvest conformance and silviculture activities. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in all aspects of forestry operations, while providing professional growth in a supportive team environment.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Graduation with a diploma or a degree in resource or forestry management, or greater, AND Registered with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) or greater AND a minimum of two (2) years of experience in operational field forestry activities.

OR,
  • Enrolled, or eligible for immediate enrollment, with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a forest technologist in training (TFT, ASTFT) or equivalent, for the purpose of obtaining an RFT designation AND a minimum of four (4) years of experience in *operational field forestry activities.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

*Operational field forestry activities include one or more of the following:
  • Timber harvesting cut-block development
  • Forest road engineering
  • Silviculture
  • Harvest operations
  • Compliance and enforcement

Preference may be given to:
  • Applicants with specific forestry activities experience, such as timber harvesting cut-block development, forest road engineering, silviculture and/or harvest operations.
  • Applicants with contract administration experience.

About this Position:
We currently have two (2) opportunities available.
This position can be based out of any of the locations listed above.
An eligibility list may be established to fill temporary and permanent vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Skeena Business Areas, Terrace and Hazelton locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.

You must be registered as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with FPBC, or able to transfer a current RFT (or related) membership to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Applicants who do not meet the RFT requirement may be considered at a lower classification, subject to having their Trainee Forest Technologist (TFT), Allied Science Trainee Forest Technologist (ASTFT), or related designation and are eligible to achieve their RFT (or greater) designation within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
