Job Summary

The Team
At Rapattack, a specialized program within BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), you'll join an established team that has been making an impact since 1977. Our team of 40-45 members live and work together, with 75% residing on-site, fostering strong camaraderie. You'll be supported by other experienced supervisors who help guide the team in responding to remote wildfires, ensuring operational success from helicopter to ground. We value our team's ability to serve as a crucial bridge between leadership and frontline crew members, creating a supportive and trusting environment.

The Role
As a Rappel Fire Crew Supervisor, your responsibilities will shift throughout the year. In the spring, you'll focus on preparing for new staff and overseeing their training. During fire season, your role is to ensure the team is well-supported and performing effectively in wildfire response. In the fall and winter, you'll help with hiring and ramping up for the next season. This unique opportunity is one of only seven such roles in the province, offering the chance to lead highly specialized teams that rappel into remote wildfires, ensuring the safety and well-being of the public.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 plus 4 seasons forest fire related experience;OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;AND
  • Minimum 2 seasons of supervisory experience;AND
  • Valid OFA Level 1 with Transportation Endorsement;AND
  • Successful completion of pre-employment fitness standard;AND
  • Maintain personal weights standards as required for crew type


Preference may give given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  • Helicopter Rappel experience
  • Qualified Faller Assessor, Qualified Faller Trainer, Certified Faller or Faller in Training or industry equivalent


Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
  • Valid Class 5 driver licence
  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures
  • To keep current on emerging issues
  • To take in-house training and certification as required
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for crew positions to meet operational requirements
