Job Summary

The Team
At the Coastal Fire Centre, you'll join a dynamic and experienced team of diverse individuals dedicated to the common goal of making responder safety a priority. As a part of this team, you'll collaborate with professionals in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery from across the province. The Fire Crew leader plays an essential role in executing fire suppression and ensuring crews are safely and effectively engaged in incident response. We value being of service to our communities, supporting each other, and promoting a learning culture.

The Role
In this role, you'll lead crews on the fireline and in day-to-day fieldwork around their communities, playing a vital part in keeping these communities safe and resilient. Your work in wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery will have a direct impact across the province. Qualifications:
Education and Experience

  • Grade 12 or equivalent; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and education may be considered; AND
  • 2 seasons forest fire related experience; AND
  • First Aid Ticket OFA Level 1 with Transportation Endorsement; AND
  • Successful completion of New Recruit Boot Camp or Agency Equivalent; AND
  • Successfully complete pre-employment fitness standard; AND
  • Maintain personal weights standards as required for crew type; AND
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license or equivalent.

Preference may be given to candidates with a combination of, or all, of the following:
  • Attended BC Wildfire Provincial Crew Leader training or agency equivalent.
  • Prior Supervisory experience.
  • Prior Fireline Supervisory experience
  • Incident Commander 5 certification or higher as per the Incident Command System
  • Previous BC Wildfire Crew Leader experience such as a temporary assignment as a Crew Leader.
  • Single Resource Leader 1 certification or higher.
  • Higher education in Resource Management or related field.
  • Experience delivering education or training to adult audiences.
  • Qualified Faller Assessor, Qualified Faller Trainer, Certified Faller or Faller in Training, or industry equivalent.

  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments, and corporate structures.
  • To keep current on emerging issues.
  • To take in-house training and certification as required.
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required.
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat, and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions.
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan.
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required.
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned.
  • To obtain and maintain certification and training for crew positions to meet operational requirements
