The Opportunity:

WSP has a new opportunity for a Senior Geochemist to join our Mine Water & Environment team on a full-time basis based in Vancouver or one of our offices in British Columbia.

The selected candidate will lead geochemistry-related projects and proposal efforts with an emphasis on the mining industry in Canada. Projects will cover all aspects of the mining cycle from exploration to closure.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Bringing your talents, training, enthusiasm, and solution-oriented focus to work as a valued and respected member of our multi-disciplinary team of professionals as we tackle some of the world's most challenging environmental problems and deliver some of the world's most innovative and relevant solutions;
  • From day one you'll be contributing to the business and technical mission of a multi-disciplinary team environment within Mine Environment and related technical discipline groups;
  • Demonstrating a "Safety-First" focus and always ensure health and safety policies are followed at all sites where you undertake project work;
  • Mentoring earlier career staff with supporting their career development;
  • As a senior practitioner contributing to the implementation of our mining group strategy;
  • You provide technical leadership and guidance on multiple mining projects across North America, utilizing a 30+ strong team of geoscientists in our Canadian mining team;
  • Contribute to multi-disciplinary proposals to bring in a diverse range of projects to WSP;
  • Oversee the delivery of reports to clients from concept to review and submission;
  • Present data to clients, review and approving mission critical deliverables.

What you'll bring to WSP:
  • Advanced degree in Geochemistry (MSc or PhD) or Geology, Geological Engineering, Hydrology, Chemistry or related field;
  • 5 to 15 years applied work experience in geochemical assessments within natural or mine-affected sites;
  • Professional registration as a registered Geoscientist, Engineer or other applicable professional regulatory body;
  • Experience in the fields of mineralogy, geology, metal leaching, acid rock drainage, surface water and groundwater interactions, hydrology, hydrogeology, and/or water treatment;
  • Familiarity with industry-standard modelling software such as MIN3P, PHREEQC, Geochemist 's Workbench, and GoldSim would be considered an asset;
  • Familiarity with PowerBi, python, R or similar coding and data presentation software is desirable;
  • Enthusiastic about generating innovative solutions to challenging environmental and geoscience problems;
  • Passion for working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment team and mentoring a diverse range of geoscientists;
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills;
  • Strong quantitative skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • A positive demeanor towards carrying out your work safely and supporting the safe work of those you work with;
  • Valid Driver's license is an asset.

Compensation:

Salary range (in British Columbia): $84,300 - $136,800

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
