Overview

We have an opportunity for a senior analytics solutions engineer (Senior Business Intelligence Analyst) in our Innovation & Technology division to create, deliver, support and maintain analytics solutions for various WorkSafeBC business areas, including dashboards and applications using low-code/no-code technologies. You will be responsible for creating solutions which aid in performance management, operations optimization, and data exploration.

You will develop solutions and conduct analysis on a wide variety of issues (e.g. occupational health and safety, financial risk exposure, and injured worker claims and successful rehabilitation) using various sources of business data and communicating findings and related interpretations/observations with primarily, but not exclusively, an internal audience. This is a temporary role for eighteen months.

Where you'll work

WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you'll work primarily from your B.C. home and occasionally in our Richmond office.

What you'll do

As a senior analytics solutions engineer you will:
  • Govern production analytics solutions by facilitating and enhancing the production solution promotion process, creating and managing templates to ensure a consistent look and feel, and ensuring the high quality of production solutions prior to promotion.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the production analytics solution development practice
  • Use a structured approach to lead agile and waterfall/traditional projects with up to five departmental resources, including ensuring proper documentation, resourcing, planning, delegation of work, budget management, stakeholder management and coordination of work across other departments
  • Provide analytics solution design leadership to the department by leading design sessions, providing guidance and mentorship, focusing on user-centric and role-centric design, and innovating new and existing analytics solution types
  • Design, build, implements and support composite analytics applications and automated workflow
  • Manage production analytics solutions by following an asset management mindset, managing content on production analytics solution platforms, implementing security requirements, configuring administrative settings and options, and interfacing with other teams and vendors as needed.
  • Work with the business to elicit requirements, focusing on the intended outcome and working backwards, and proactively communicating and collaborating with internal customers
  • Independently discover the best available data to utilize for the analytics use-case through conducting research, understanding sources and gaps, reading through documentation and metadata, creating logic/connections/derivations to generate information and measurements.
  • Provide ad-hoc analytics solutions and analysis, production analysis solutions design and development and quality assurance.

  • Independently manage technology-related projects using project management standards
  • Lead and motivate a team of people to success
  • Elicit varied and complex business requirements and objectives and translate complex requirements into a recommended design that provides an optimal user experience
  • Establish credibility and develop and maintain effective working relationships both internally within the team and with customers
  • Critically understand and diagnose root causes to difficult or complex issues and develop innovative alternative options and solutions to address both short and long term needs
  • Provide high quality customer service with a focus on accuracy, relevancy and timeliness based on business requirements

Your background and experience
  • An undergraduate's degree in a related discipline such as Business or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math)
  • A minimum of three years in an analytics delivery role
  • Specialist knowledge in analytics, business process analysis, management of information systems, and proven ability to apply key principles and methods used in a production environment
