A review officer is a decision-maker at the first level of statutory review in the workers' compensation system. As a review officer intern, you'll assume responsibility for reviewing and analyzing evidence, and making well-reasoned written decisions on matters under the Workers Compensation Act. Decisions must be fair, of high quality and rendered within statutory timeframes.

As a member of a team of student interns, you will report to a manager and receive extensive training and mentoring assistance during your term of employment. You'll work in a collegial environment where feedback and consultation are encouraged.

We're hiring up to ten students to join our team in our head office in Richmond.

  • Review relevant evidence contained in file materials and submissions
  • Where appropriate, conduct further investigation including contacting individuals by phone to address specific questions, or obtaining further medical information or an opinion from a medical adviser (physician)
  • Research law and policy to determine the appropriate considerations and analysis for the decision
  • Where necessary, consult with a mentor, team manager, or quality assurance representative for guidance
  • Write formal but understandable decision letters which clearly set out the issue(s), the relevant evidence, the submissions of the parties, and adequate reasons for the decision

Is this a good fit for you?

We're looking for someone who can:
  • Review complex files and analyze evidence
  • Appropriately interpret and apply legislation and policy
  • Effectively complete tasks and/or manage projects in a stressful work environment
  • Effectively utilize workload and management processes and/or time management tools in order to meet requisite deadlines
  • Establish respectful and productive work relationships, in spite of challenging circumstances or situations
  • Learn and develop from constructive criticism
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, within a team environment
  • Independently make difficult decisions

Salary:
  • $29.64 per hour for first time intern students
  • $32.92 per hour for returning intern students

Application requirements:

Submit a current resume and cover letter (combine into one file) detailing how your characteristics, accomplishments and prior work experience relate to each specific competency.

The posting will close at 4:30pm on the closing date of the competition.
