Job Description

Leading the implementation of a new HRIS, including hourly payroll, timekeeping, onboarding, and recruitment modules. Excellent opportunity with a successful and well-established company headquartered in downtown Vancouver. Reporting into a great boss, mentoring one direct report, and working on a tight-knit Human Resources team. Amazing culture, complex and interesting work, generous total compensation package.

Who- the Company:
Our client is a very reputable business headquartered in downtown Vancouver. The company has a vibrant and fun-loving corporate culture. The people working at this company are laid back and friendly, but still very serious about their work and passionate about contributing to the organization’s ongoing success. The company is well-diversified and complex, with many exciting projects on the go!

What- the Role:
On behalf of our client, SWIM is seeking a Manager, HR & Payroll Systems.  This is a well-rounded and exciting role. The Manager will reside on the HR team and will report into an HR leader.  The new Manager will have one direct report, an HR Analyst. There is a 3-year roadmap in place which the new Manager can execute on, and the system has already been selected with the salaried payroll module turned on. The next step is to migrate Payroll for several hundred Canadian hourly employees to the new system, including transitioning to digital timekeeping w. biometrics. The company is transitioning off of 3 legacy systems for hourly payroll and timekeeping. After that module, the next modules to be implemented are Onboarding and Recruitment.

The Manager will work closely with an external system implementation consulting firm, as well as with other external consultants and with a variety of internal stakeholders (in payroll, IT, operations, HR, talent acquisition, etc.)

A significant part of this role is cross-departmental communication, change management, user training, answering questions from the business, and generally getting buy-in from corporate and operational employees. The Manager will occasionally visit operating sites throughout Greater Vancouver to have in-person conversations with the hourly and salaried employees working outside of the corporate office (the company will cover the Manager’s mileage expenses if they drive themselves, or the Manager can carpool with an HR colleague who has access to a vehicle).
SWIM will provide a full job description to interested candidates.

Who- the Candidate:
We are seeking candidates with at least 5 years of relevant and progressive experience with HR systems and payroll systems, including start-to-finish implementation project experience. Must have an understanding of Canadian hourly payroll and timekeeping (i.e how the systems are used, the FAQs from employees, etc).

Must have strong technical skills- the Manager doesn’t need to be able to code or develop, but will need to be able to configure and customize the back-end, with support from the consultants.

Academic qualifications in change management are highly beneficial.

We’re open to candidates who have worked on the implementation project of any HRIS, as long as it included payroll- for example, Workday, SuccesFactors, PeopleSoft, UKG, Ceridian Dayforce, etc.

Must have proficiency in Excel, and experience using SQL and PowerBI is very advantageous. We are looking for a Manager with great mentorship and leadership abilities, as the Manager will be guiding and developing the HR Analyst on the team.

We are looking for people who are excellent communicators (written, verbal, non-verbal) who love building in-person relationships across a business. Strong analytical, mentorship, training, and project management skills are all important, as is a consultative and adaptable nature.

Where:
This company is headquartered in the heart of downtown Vancouver, close to lots of rapid transit options. This is a full-time in-office role during the first couple months in the role, as the Manager is getting to know the business and building relationships. After that, there is some hybrid flexibility- please discuss further with SWIM. This company provides a paid downtown parking pass OR a monthly transit pass (depending on how the Manager plans to commute to the office).

How Much:
Base salary commensurate with level of experience, skills, and qualifications- in the range of $95,000 to $120,000. Please note for the top end, candidates will need to have many years of relevant experience and will have most/all of the desired qualifications. The Manager will receive great perks such as health & dental benefits, an RRSP match, a bonus program, plenty of social events, a transit pass OR monthly parking pass, and relevant professional development support (including an all-paid conference in the US later in 2024). Please discuss your total compensation expectations in more detail with SWIM.
