Job Summary
The Team
Join our dynamic new team, the Tenures and Landscape Planning team, within the Quesnel Natural Resource District. We focus on strategic planning for managing timber tenures and developing Forest Landscape Plans. Our small, collaborative team includes a Section Head, two Authorization Officers, and the Land and Resource Coordinator, who plays a pivotal role in implementing one of the first Forest Landscape Plans in the province. Working alongside the Section Head and other specialists, you'll support tenures and woodlot programs while engaging with diverse partners, including Indigenous governments. We value competence, independence, and a strong sense of collaboration, ensuring we provide excellent service and stewardship in managing timber resources throughout the district.
The Role
As a Land and Resource Coordinator, you will play a leading role in reviewing Forest Operation Plan submissions in collaboration with Indigenous Government partners to ensure alignment with government-to-government Forest Landscape Plans. You will also lead the effectiveness monitoring of these plans, working with a diverse group that includes Indigenous partners, industry representatives, and local and provincial government departments. This role is crucial in promoting long-term sustainable forest harvesting within the Quesnel area, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of forestry in BC. Job Requirements:
- Registered as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC), or able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. - Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by Forest Professionals BC (FPBC) or an equivalent combination of education and experience as recognized by Forest Professionals BC.
Experience working in a forestry discipline including:
- Experience managing multiple projects or leading a major component (e.g., sub-project) of a project.
- Experience managing relationships with senior level partners, leading consultation sessions, and public engagement sessions.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Experience supervising staff.
- Training in project management.
- Experience in project management and partner engagement best practices.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in contract management and administration.
- Financial management "budgeting/tracking" experience.
- Experience in harvesting field practices, project development including site plan creation and/or integrated resource management.
