Overview

Are you looking for a challenging leadership role within a dynamic environment that leverages advanced cloud technologies? If you're a leader who has experience with building and delivering modern infrastructure platforms, we have an exciting opportunity for you to lead a talented team in our Innovation & Technology (I&T) division.

As Director, Enterprise Platform Delivery & Operations, you'll provide leadership and strategic direction to a department that brings together areas representing architecture, infrastructure, environments, databases, express development, and operations to enable rapid and responsive delivery to meet business needs. You'll represent the voice of technology platform within the I&T leadership team and manage the flow of important information within the department, positioning the department as one of the key links enabling the division to deliver our services to the organization.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Technology Operations, you'll coordinate business and technology initiatives and ensure stable and reliable production system operations. You'll be responsible for overseeing managers, staff, contractors, and service providers to ensure that the services Enterprise Platform & Operations provides deliver the value expected by the business. As Director, you'll establish proper governance to complete initiatives successfully and ensure smooth production operations. You'll also take an enterprise-wide view to identify ways to amplify individual initiatives, so they benefit the whole organization.

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond office, with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.

What you'll do
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to advance platform infrastructure, driving innovation and efficiency in alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Oversee the stability and reliability of production system operations, including infrastructure, databases, batch job processing, and disaster recovery.
  • Oversee the "system and solution" architecture function within the division to apply appropriate governance, processes, and practices to ensure well-architected business solutions that meet the intended business need.
  • Direct the Enterprise Platform team to ensure rapid and responsive delivery of programs and projects to meet the needs of the business and enable them to drive forward quickly and effectively on strategic and technical initiatives.
  • Participate in the investment plan process, coordinate the intake and prioritization of technology initiatives, secure funding to complete initiatives, and track progress during the year. Provide monthly forecasts for the investment plan and recommend when to make adjustments to the plan to achieve the organizational objectives.
  • Determine departmental priorities and objectives and support the Enterprise Platform team in formulating and implementing operational plans and activities that are aligned with the strategic direction of I&T and the organization.
  • Promote teamwork, collaboration, and ownership culture in achieving business objectives and priorities.
  • Oversee execution of plans, provide guidance when required, and take appropriate action to modify plans and redirect activities to meet objectives.

We're looking for someone who can:
  • Lead the strategic planning and execution of infrastructure platforms, driving the development and enhancement of platform services to align with organizational goals and ensure scalable, innovative, and efficient solutions.
  • Identify, follow up, and respond to clients' needs and areas of concern, taking appropriate action to quickly resolve issues.
  • Participate in strategic planning, business planning and decision making at the divisional level, advise I&T senior leadership of strategic issues, options, and recommendations, and proactively identify and mitigate risks.
  • Provide overall direction, leadership, and management of the team of managers, staff, and contractors within the Enterprise Platform & Operations department. Hire, orient, evaluate, discipline, and terminate staff as required. Set performance goals and provide feedback, coaching, and developmental planning to support and motivate team members in meeting expectations. Ensure that appropriate training and development is provided to assist staff in meeting operational and performance expectations.
  • Promote the strategies and objectives of WorkSafeBC and the I&T division within and outside of the organization and represent WorkSafeBC and the I&T division with various external stakeholders and interest groups as required.
  • Create a supportive and empowering working environment within the department by ensuring effective communication, promoting teamwork, providing opportunities for manager involvement in planning and recognizing employees' contributions and achievements. Support managers as changes and new initiatives are implemented in the workplace. Ensure that necessary administrative and technical resources and services are available to support managers in doing their work by identifying needs, coordinating with other departments, and taking appropriate action.

Your background and experience:
  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree in business, computer science, engineering, and/or related discipline
  • Master's degree in business or equivalent postgraduate training will be considered an asset
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience
  • Must have significant hands-on experience managing or overseeing the management of mid- to large-scale information technology projects, including cross-functional and cross-organizational projects and enterprise-scale infrastructure platforms
  • Team management and leadership experience, especially with guiding and managing large teams, is required

Salary: $185,257 - $225,087 /annually
