Work Arrangements
The Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, is seeking a contract instructor to teach Canadian, Indigenous and/or American History for the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 semesters. Applicants must be available to teach at our New Westminster/Coquitlam campuses.
In addition, the department invites applicants for placement on a contract list of instructors. The successful applicant(s) will be qualified to teach a variety of courses; which may include one or more of the following:

The Role
The Department offers first, second, and third-year courses to students completing a degree at the College or planning to transfer to research universities. The faculty member must be able to teach days and evenings at the New Westminster and Coquitlam campuses.

Applicants must ensure that the application package is submitted online. The application package must include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a teaching dossier that includes teaching evaluations and other evidence of teaching effectiveness, sample course outlines, and a list of teachable subject areas. The applicant must also arrange for two letters of reference addressed to The Selection Committee to be sent directly via email to Dr. Cedric Bolz, History Chair at bolzc@douglascollege.ca.
Preferred candidates will have a strong background in Canadian history, with the breadth of skill that allows them to teach Indigenous courses and some topic-oriented North American courses. Candidates should also demonstrate a record of service to academic and institutional communities. •Plan lectures and seminars based on the curriculum and program guidelines
•Instruct students and facilitate learning
•Assess and evaluate student progress
•Plan, organize, and manage learning activities
•Provide academic advice to learners
•Maintain quality learner-centred instruction
•Actively contribute to collegial activities within the department, the faculty, and the college
•Work with colleagues to maintain a positive working environment
Successful Applicants Will Meet the Following Criteria:
•A completed PhD in History from an accredited university. Doctoral candidates may be considered if a defence date is established.
•Demonstrated evidence of experience in teaching Canadian, Indigenous and/or American Histories specifically (but not limited to) HIST 1113, 1114, 1140 and 1170 at the first year level.
•Familiarity with a range of historiographic and interpretive issues including indigeneity, immigration, multiculturalism, and diversity.
•Demonstrated evidence of excellence in teaching diverse groups of students, and commitment to undergraduate education.
•Demonstrated evidence of active contribution to teaching community and workplace collegiality.
