ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
As a full-time Coating Engineer at Spraywerx, you will play a critical role in the development, optimization, and implementation of advanced thermal spray coating processes. You will work closely with our engineering team to refine our inner-diameter HVOF technology and related coating solutions. This position requires a deep understanding of surface engineering, process control, and material science to ensure high-quality coatings for our clients.

ABOUT YOU
You have a strong background in materials engineering with knowledge or background in thermal spray coating technologies, which you have gained through a combination of industry experience and/or education. We love candidates who have a background in the industry with hands-on experience through trades, perhaps you even have your Red Seal!

You are detail oriented with a track record of developing and optimizing coating processes that meet rigorous industry standards. You have experience working directly with customers and have exceptional communication skills to ensure that their needs are fully understood and met through requirement gathering and process optimization.

Able to work in Canada and travel internationally. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work directly with customers to gather requirements and develop customized coating solutions that meet their industrial needs.

  • Design, develop, and optimize thermal spray processes, including High-Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) for various industrial applications.

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot thermal spray equipment, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and efficiency standards.

  • Oversaw surface preparation procedures, including cleaning and grit blasting, to ensure optimal coating adhesion.

  • Conduct quality control inspections and tests to verify coating thickness, adhesion, and durability.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to clients and internal teams on coating applications, material selection, and process improvements.

  • Collaborate with R&D teams to innovate and enhance current thermal spray technologies.

  • Document and analyze process parameters to drive continuous improvement and ensure compliance with industry regulations.

  • Travel (approximately once per quarter) to client sites, both domestically and internationally, for installation, service, and customer support. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A combination of direct and related work experience and/or education. This may include 2-5 years of experience in thermal spray coatings or a related field and/or a post-secondary education in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or a related field. 

  • Prior experience in thermal spray technologies, particularly HVOF and laser cladding, is highly desirable and may include Co-op, Post Doc or industry or trade experience.

  • Hands-on experience with thermal spray equipment, powder feeders, and spray torches.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to optimize processes for performance and efficiency.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with internal teams and external clients.

  • Customer-focused mindset with experience working directly with clients to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

  • Willingness to travel quarterly for client service, installation, and support, including international clients.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • This role is based in our North Vancouver office/warehouse. While we are an in office culture, there is some flexibility for remote work from time to time.

  • 3 weeks vacation
