The Office of the Auditor General of B.C. (OAG) is an independent office of the legislature that contributes to excellence in effective and accountable government. We offer opportunities for career growth, an excellent compensation package, and flexible working arrangements.

Our office promotes trust, cooperation, and teamwork in a diverse, inclusive, and respectful environment. We are committed to creating and reinforcing diversity, equity, inclusion, and psychological safety - creating a safe environment where everyone feels they belong and are encouraged to bring their whole selves to work. We support each other, celebrate our successes, and encourage a healthy work-life balance for everyone. Our staff events are socially, physically, and emotionally nourishing - with lots of great food - and fun!

Our downtown Victoria location supports collaboration and includes a gym, indoor bike storage, and decks with views of the beautiful Inner Harbour.

About the Role
We are looking for four highly motivated individuals to join our office. This opportunity will appeal to third or fourth-year students enrolled in an undergraduate program in accounting. Candidates who successfully complete the co-op terms may be considered for permanent CPA articling positions starting in 2025 or 2026.

In the Audit Associate, Co-op role, students will participate in financial statement audits and may have the opportunity to support performance audits as well. Audits are conducted in accordance with Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS) established by the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board. The results of these audits provide the public and members of the legislative assembly with assurance and accountability information about how well government finances and programs are being administered. The Audit Associate works as part of a team, receiving assignments from engagement managers. They may interact with staff of auditees, primarily in financial management and potentially with program managers of ministries, crown corporations and agencies, universities, colleges, school districts, health authorities, community service authorities and hospital societies.

Accountabilities
As an Audit Associate, Co-op, students may be exposed to different steps in the financial statement audit process (planning, conducting, reporting). The work will be carried out in accordance with the office methodology and professional standards. The Audit Associate may document business processes, identify relevant controls or weaknesses, carryout analytical procedures, perform substantive sampling and other audit tasks. They will have the opportunity to work on at least two different audits, and possibly more or other projects depending on scheduling needs.
