Reporting to the Mill Processing Superintendent, the Chief Engineer, Process Control Systems will be assisting Mill Processing and Maintenance to safely and cost-effectively meet key production and efficiency targets. Key targets include concentrate grade, recovery, throughput targets for copper and moly in the concentrate. This is accomplished through a sustainable culture of Process Control throughout the operation. This role is accountable for the team maintaining, designing and implementing advanced applications, as well as overseeing team effectiveness in data analysis, controller monitoring, process modelling and conducting benefit analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a Courageous Safety Leader by adhering to safety and environmental rules and procedures, leading Safety Investigations, participating in Visible Felt Leadership and Safety Tours.
  • Collaborate with Mill Operations, Maintenance, and support groups to design and implement process control strategies and real-time optimization for selected circuits.
  • Manage a process control team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
  • Ensure daily variance reviews and recommendations for Crushing, Grinding, Throughput, and Cu/Mo Recovery circuits.
  • Support department meetings and provide input on forecasts, reviews, and planning sessions.
  • Contribute to projects that maximize production, reduce costs, and resolve operational risks.
  • Maintain monitoring programs to track performance, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure the control systems group maintains infrastructure for regulatory and advanced applications.
  • Author technical reports and project documents for process improvements and targets.
  • Draft capital requests and project charters for initiatives advancing recovery, quality, safety, or cost reduction.
  • Manage external suppliers and consultants, ensuring safety and compliance during on-site projects

Qualifications:

  • Electrical, Metallurgical, Chemical engineer degree or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum 5 years of designing and implementing real-time optimization strategies in mineral or metallurgical processing circuit (e.g. Crushing, Grinding, Flotation, Dewatering).
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience with technical teams;
  • Knowledge with instrumentation, PLC/DCS, HMI, historian, communications (e.g. OPC);
  • Experience reviewing and developing PFDs, P&IDs and HAZOPs;
  • Knowledge in data science techniques to find data patterns, anomalies and optimization opportunities, advanced process control (e.g. advanced regulatory control, fuzzy, MPC, Expert, etc.);
  • Knowledge of data exploration, preparation and machine learning modeling. Ability to document work, interpret, translate and communicate analytical findings using effective relevant visualizations;
  • Self-motivated team player with the ability to mentor and motivate;
  • Must be eligible for Professional Engineer membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geo-Scientists of the Province of British Columbia (APEGBC);
  • Must have a valid driver's license (BC 7N or equivalent).

Salary Range:$132,000 - $163,000

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
