The Opportunity:

WSP has a new and exciting opportunity for a Field Director to join our Heritage team in our Fort St. John, BC location.

The successful candidate will have their Subarctic Boreal Forest Field Director status and will complete mostly field-based work for existing projects, although there may be opportunities for office-based work. You will gain valuable and diverse work experience as part of our large regional heritage team and will have opportunities to work on multidisciplinary projects that will contribute to your professional development.

What you can expect to do here:

As an Archaeological Field Director, your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading archaeological field programs while maintaining compliance with Heritage Conservation Act permits;
  • Working in a variety of environments, such as all-weather conditions, rugged and semi-remote locations, and overnight accommodations in a camp or hotel setting;
  • Participating in Indigenous community relationship-building by working closely with community members in the field in a respectful and collaborative manner;
  • Undertaking analysis and preparing sections of technical reports and site forms;
  • Supervising junior staff and Indigenous workers where appropriate;
  • Participating in WSP's Health & Safety program;
  • Demonstrating a "Safety First" focus and acting as a role model to other staff;
  • Complying with WSP's Fit for Duty policy.

What you'll bring to WSP ...
  • An undergraduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology with relevant cultural resource management experience
  • Subarctic Boreal Forest Field Director status in good standing
  • Experience identifying, recording, and evaluating the full range of archaeological site types expected in the Subarctic Boreal Forest culture area
  • An aptitude for working collaboratively with Indigenous communities
  • Proficiency with standard data collection equipment including GPS and hand-held tablets
  • Proven oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to contribute to a positive teamwork environment as well as to work independently
  • Solid MS Office skills
  • Valid driver's license (Class 5)
  • ATV/UTV and First Aid Certification would be considered an asset

Compensation

Expected Salary (British Columbia): $80,800 - $111,100

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
