Utility Systems Operator III - Metro Vancouver
Posted 17 days ago
Job Description
Metro Vancouver is a federation of 21 municipalities, one Electoral Area and one Treaty First Nation that collaboratively plans for and delivers regional-scale services like drinking water, wastewater treatment and solid waste management. The regional district also regulates air quality, plans for urban growth, manages a regional parks system, and provides affordable housing.
The Regional District model allows municipalities, electoral areas, and Treaty First Nations to collaborate on infrastructure, service delivery, land use planning and more, as needed by the region’s communities. This way, local governments can pool their resources to take advantage of economies of scale and regional leverage. Metro Vancouver is B.C.’s most populous and metropolitan regional district.
About the RoleThis is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated EOCP Certified Wastewater Collection Operator III to take on a leadership role in the day-to-day operations of Metro Vancouver’s wastewater collection system. The preferred candidate will have a minimum four (4) years experience in wastewater or drainage system operations and maintenance. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Sewer and Drainage Field Services and as part of the Liquid Waste Services Department, the Utility Systems Operator (USO) III oversees the day-to-day operations of Metro Vancouver’s wastewater collections system; including sewers, pump stations, wastewater detention tanks and odour control facilities. The USO III works as part of the Sewer & Drainage Operation Crews in scheduled maintenance and emergency call outs responsible for keeping the system running effectively and efficiently while interacting with contractors, external agencies, and the public.
The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, reliable, and safety-conscious, with expertise in large sewer and drainage collection systems. This position offers the opportunity to apply operational and technical skills in a collaborative team environment while contributing to the efficiency and sustainability of Metro Vancouver’s wastewater infrastructure.
The salary for this position is $3,169.60 bi-weekly ($82,691 per annum) plus 6.25% deferred compensation. The additional 6.25% deferred compensation is earned on hours worked and the additional 6.25% can be taken as compensation or time off. The total compensation for this role is accompanied by an attractive benefits package including the Municipal Pension Plan. This position works Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm. Opportunities are available at Metro Vancouver’s Surrey location (South Fraser Works Yard) and Burnaby location (Production Way Operations Centre).
