Job Summary

The Team
BC Timber Sales Stuart-Nechako Business Area's silviculture team works closely with sales, harvesting, and engineering staff to carry out operational plans and meet our organization's responsibilities. The team consists of two Practices Foresters, one Operations Technologist, and two Forest Technologists. This is an established team with a mix of experience levels, focused on delivering silviculture programs that support sustainable resource management. The team is dedicated to maintaining strong forest stewardship and works collaboratively to meet the area's objectives.To find out more about our program check out the BCTS website and video .

The Role
As the Operations Technologist, you will coordinate silviculture activities for the Fort St James field team. Your role will involve providing technical support to the team, assisting with budget submissions, and managing tasks like deliverable planning and overseeing the summer student program. You will work closely with Practices Foresters to manage silviculture data and ensure that corporate deadlines and standards are met. This position plays an important role in supporting long-term forest management and offers the opportunity to be directly involved in shaping the direction of the silviculture program.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved technical institute with a diploma or degree in resource or forestry managementandthree (3) years of experience in one (1) or more operational field forestry activities,OR
  • An equivalent combination of education or experience such as five (5) years of experience in one (1) or more area of operational field forestry.

Operational field forestry activities include the following:

o Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
o Cut-block development
o Forest road engineering
o Silviculture
o Timber tenure development and administration
  • Applicants must be registered or eligible for registration with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as a Registered Forest Technologist or equivalent.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Three (3) years of specific forestry experience in one (1) or more operational field-based forestry activity such as tenure development, road and block layout, or timber tenure administration.
  • Experience in contract or financial administration.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill permanent vacancies within the BC Timber Sales Stuart-Nechako Business Area, Fort St John.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.

You must be registered as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT) with FPBC, or able to transfer a current RFT (or related) membership to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Applicants who do not meet the RFT requirement may be considered at a lower classification, subject to having their Trainee Forest Technologist (TFT), Allied Science Trainee Forest Technologist (ASTFT), or related designation and are eligible to achieve their RFT (or greater) designation within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
