What you'll do
- Prepares and reviews instructional materials and teaches assigned therapeutic, diagnostic and technical information relating to respiratory care to TRU RT students. Maintains program records.
- Provides supervision to students in all patient care areas and ensures appropriate interactions with all health care personnel, patients and families.
- Assigns, schedules and coordinates clinical activities of RT students on rotation.
- Evaluates student progress and performance by monitoring and assessing clinical performance and attainment of clinical competencies. Provides students with feedback and evaluation and reports to TRU Program Coordinator on students' progress during the rotation.
- Acts as a liaison in providing appropriate communication between Practice Leader, Physicians, operational leaders, respiratory therapy staff and other personnel regarding RT students as required.
- Participates in specific projects in collaboration with Practice Leader/Professional Practice Director, operational leaders and other health care professionals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you bring
Qualifications
- Registered member in good standing with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and British Columbia's Society of Respiratory Therapists.
- Completion of a professional course for teaching at the college level, e.g., Instructional Skills Workshop, Instructors Diploma Program or Adult Education Certification.
- Minimum two (2) years recent related experience a tertiary care teaching hospital, preferably with skills in neonatal and paediatrics.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Paediatric Advanced Life Support, and Neonatal Advanced Life Support certification, instructor designation preferred.

- Ability to teach and supervise, including mentoring of students.
- Organizational skills with detail oriented skills in documentation.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and small groups.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents - including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - and how they intersect across the health care system.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
