We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team in the Post Anesthetic Recovery department at the University Hospital of Northern BC.

Reporting to the Manager, Perioperative Services, the staff nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care and nursing practice activities within the frame work of quality management and in accordance with the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia standards. The role is defined by the needs of the Hospital, a select patient/family population, agency expectation and the standards of professional nursing practice.

The NH Regional Education for Perianesthesia Critical Care Nursing uses a standardized, evidence informed on-line curriculum offered by Elsevier, called ASPAN Mosby's Orientation to Perianesthesia Nursing (MOPAN) with additional evidence informed on-line modules completed through Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO). The program begins with the Mosby's ECG Dysrhythmia Interpretation 4.0 educational course. REPACC continues with a 10-week theory portion using a blend of evidence-based online learning modules, instructor led theory, skills labs, simulation, and clinical practicum to introduce learners to perianesthesia nursing. REPACC includes essential education courses Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Collaborative Advanced Management of Airways for Nurses (CAMAN) which provide essential and valuable knowledge and skills to prepare learners to anticipate and provide safe patient care in the perianesthesia care setting. .

Upon successful completion of the theory based learning, learners are paired with a preceptor for 20 - 8 hour shifts in PACU and 8 - 12 hour shifts in the ICU. The preceptorship will prepare nurses to provide safe and competent perianesthesia nursing care at a novice level.

• There are 5 training positions available for 2024/2025
• Northern Health provides placement support and funding for tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements, as required
• Learners should expect to make a 6 - 12 month commitment for this education, which includes online and in-person learning
• Additional study time, outside of scheduled hours, may be required to successfully complete the program
• Flexibility for practicums is necessary
• Applicants must successfully complete the education program prior to working in the department
• Upon successful completion of the education program, Northern Health requires an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular position in the area of nursing applicable to the education program.
• Qualified applicants will be considered first for specialty positions. If there are no qualified applicants, training lines will be awarded to unqualified applicants and training will be provided

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Monday to Friday, Days, 08:00 to 16:00

Fort St. John Hospital and Health Centre has 44 Acute Care beds and 124 residential beds and is equipped to handle 22,000 ER visits per year. Some more highlights about the hospital:
• Endoscopy suite, 2 state-of-the-art operating rooms, plus a procedure room
• Ambulatory clinics including Cancer and Hemodialysis
• Medical and Surgical inpatient rooms (40 beds)

• 7 single Maternity rooms for Labour, Delivery, and Post-Partum Fort St. John also has the Health Unit and Primary Care Clinic which serve the community.

Fort St. John is known as "The Energetic City," which reflects the large resource base of oil, natural gas, forestry and agriculture. Overlooking the Peace River, the town of Fort St John is located above the Peace River Valley and serves as the capital of the Peace River district. The population of Fort St. John is over 21,400 but it services an area of approximately 70,000. The community is the hub of the Northeast with a cultural centre and library, theatre, and art space. There are seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one secondary school. There is also a Northern Lights College campus. Qualfications
• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
• Current C.P.R., I.V. Therapy and Discharge from P.A.R. Certificates mandatory.
• One year recent experience in the Operating Room/Post-Anesthetic Room.

Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to deal with others effectively.
• Demonstrated physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment such as blood pressure and oxygen saturation monitor, hydrotherapy blanket, operative instruments, endoscopes and scope washer.
• Demonstrated knowledge of specialized procedures and techniques such as scrub, circulating and Post-Anesthetic and Endoscope Room nursing care.
• Demonstrated Knowledge of aseptic technique.
