Position Summary
Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at Dawson Creek & District Hospital.

Under the general direction of the Team Leader and as a member of the multidisciplinary adult care team, the incumbent provides nursing assessment and treatment services for adults who may suffer from various psychiatric illnesses and mental disorders. Following the development of the care plan, treatment services are implemented, using appropriate forms of individual and/or group therapies. The purpose of this team approach is to maximize community functioning and to reduce utilization of acute care services. This includes liaison with other members of the health team and persons in the community. Participates in educational services, planning, program development and policy recommendations. The nurse provides psychiatric nursing perspective to the team in the development of services within the catchment area.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work: Days, Nights - 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00, Rotating

Dawson Creek & District Hospital Dawson Creek and District Hospital is a full service community hospital that provides service to Dawson Creek and surrounding communities. It has 31 Acute Care beds and 15 regional adult psychiatric beds. Dawson Creek is the Orthopaedic Trauma and Surgical centre for the Northeast Region of BC. Services include:
• Emergency
• ICU
• Day Surgery
• Respiratory Therapy
• Primary Care
• Acute Care
• Diagnostic Imaging
• Laboratory
Visiting specialists including:
• Urology
• Dermatology
• Pediatrics
• Obstetrics and Gynecology

Dawson Creek Wide blue skies and the rolling foothills of the Northern Rockies surround Dawson Creek. The city is also known as the Mile Zero City, as it marks the start of the Alaska Highway, a 2,400 km long highway connecting Alaska and the Yukon to Western Canada and the United States. Dawson Creek has a population of approximately 12,500. It provides primary service to a population of approximately 20,000 and helps serve the larger population of the Peace River Region of 60,000. There are eleven elementary schools, one middle school and one secondary school. The Northern Lights College provides adult education. Qualfications
• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN or RPN registrant.
• Current CPR and Blood Glucose Monitoring certification.
• Post graduate psychiatric nursing course for RN's, Canadian Nurses Association certification program in psychiatry, or equivalent combination of training or experience.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to use good judgement and organization skills in providing patient care.
• Knowledge and utilization of the DSM IV in order to establish provisional diagnosis.
• Ability to interpret the Mental Health Act as it relates to patient care and patient rights.
• Ability to provide work direction to others.
• Knowledge of community agencies and resources.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, all levels of staff, physicians, other health care workers and the public.
• Ability to assess and deal with emergency situations.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
