Job Purpose:
Our company serve the overriding goal for the design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and shipping of quality cabinetry and millwork in a resource efficient, timely, and accurate fashion, in accordance with internal guidelines for quality as well as specification requirements.
For our organization, Cabinetmakers use a variety of woods and laminates to construct and repair wooden cabinets, and construct complex millwork, displays and unique items.
This occurs in a factory/warehouse setting.
The Cabinetmaker Foreperson will primarily work and supervise in the custom manufacturing area, opposed to in any other area of the facility.
Reports to:
- The incumbent reports to the Production Manager or Assistant Plant Manager/s
Direct Reports:
- The incumbent will have one or two direct reports, likely including apprentices
The Incumbent will have some or all the following tasks.
- Primary duties include, but are not limited to
- Supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities in the custom area of the facility
- Maintain a proper inventory of the custom facility
- Keep the custom area clean, tidy and hazard free
- Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work activities with other departments
- Study plans, specifications, or drawings of articles to be made, or prepare specifications
- Mark outlines or dimensions of parts on wood or other secondary wood product
- Operate woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, mortisers and shapers, and use hand tools to cut, shape and form parts and components
- Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form complete unit using glue and clamps and reinforce joints using nails, screws, or other fasteners
- Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneer, stain, or polish to finished products
- May estimate amount, type and cost of materials required.

- Wrapping, labelling, and loading/unloading cabinetry components when required
- Completing parts requests and extra ordinary orders according to operational requirements
- Participate in Toolbox talks and modelling safe work practices
- Following the standard operating procedures of all machines and tools- or modifying them according to current best practices
- Follow the lock out tag out procedures for all machines and tools
- Operating gluing machines to glue pieces of wood together or press and affix wood veneer to wood surfaces
- Finishing cabinetry components with paint, lacquer either manually or with machinery
- Other duties and tasks as assigned, including but not limited to counting, tallying and requesting supplies, completing safety courses per WCB, participating in drills, surveys and other safety items per the employer and WCB, participating in training & toolbox talks
- Assist with the supervision and orientation/monitoring of new and young workers in the workplace.

Qualifying Requirements:
- Legally permitted to work in Canada
- Journeyperson status in Cabinetmaking/Joinery
- Combination of 4 years cabinetmaking, installation, joinery
- Proven experience mentoring apprentices
- Proven experience leading a team
- Basic computer literacy including word, outlook and excel
- Augmented literacy including ability to read drawings and instructions in English
- Ability to read and provide assembly instructions
- Finishing (paint) is a bonus qualification and will be viewed favorably
- Ability to read and write fluently in English including the reading of shop drawings and blueprints
- Has experience with physical work, including moving, lifting, standing
Working Conditions:
This work is 100% standing/moving in a factory environment.
There are occasional exposures to the elements when loading or unloading trucks as well as when the bay doors are open.
There is an 100% requirement for the ability to bend, twist, lifting floor to waist and waist to shoulder, pushing, pulling and repetitive movement.
Standing is required all day, and while anti-fatigue mats are provided it is incumbent on the worker to ensure physical ability to work.
There is some above head reaching but constitutes less than 20% of the work conducted.
The necessity to grip small tools, work in small (but not confined) spaces, kneeling on occasion is also present.
The work is conducted between Monday and Friday, from 7am to 3:30pm with the option and occasional necessity of overtime.
In infrequent occurrences, some cabinetmakers will be aske to work in the field or on a job site to either act as assistant to an installer, conduct small repairs or view how the product comes together once it’s being installed.
This is typically elective.

Physical Requirements:
Strength Guidelines
A manufacturing or warehouse worker, however, has a much more physically demanding job and may require the ability to lift heavier loads to complete their job. The task outline is as follows
Frequent (walking, standing, crouching, bending, repetitive movement, lifting floor to waist and wait to shoulder, pushing)
Limited (kneeling, reaching, lifting overhead, pulling)
Due to the operational requirements of the job, physician’s note of physical capability may be requested at any time.
Motion Parameters:
While each workstation has its own physical demand analysis, a hiring condition is that all staff must be able to sit or stand for the duration of an 8-hour shift.
At each two-hour increment, a microbreak is provided.
Vision and Hearing Requirements:
Workers must be able to read ID and shop drawings, interior signs and measure distances in metric.
Must be able to read documents on a computer screen, must be able to hear warnings for safety in the factory and on the road (in the instance of unloading a truck).
Psychological Demands:
Employees are expected to make decisions and work as a team.
Employees are expected to communicate clearly whether verbally or in writing with teammates, supervisors, and administrators.
Employees are expected to work under pressure when deadlines are expected.
Employees must be prepared for changing priorities as dictated to us by the job sites and or supply of materials or other factors.

Orders to workers- Regulatory excerpt:
Section 116 (General duties of workers) of the Workers Compensation Act ("Act") states:
116(1) every worker must:
(a) take reasonable care to protect the worker's health and safety and the health and safety of other persons who may be affected by the worker's acts or omissions at work, and
(b) comply with this Part, the regulations and any applicable orders.
(2) Without limiting subsection (1), a worker must
(a) carry out his or her work in accordance with established safe work procedures as required by this Part and the regulations,
(b) use or wear protective equipment, devices and clothing as required by the regulations,
(c) not engage in horseplay or similar conduct that may endanger the worker or any other person,
(d) ensure that the worker's ability to work without risk to his or her health or safety, or to the health or safety of any other person, is not impaired by alcohol, drugs or other causes,
(e) report to the supervisor or employer
(i) any contravention of this Part, the regulations or an applicable order of which the worker is aware, and
(ii) the absence of or defect in any protective equipment, device or clothing, or the existence of any other hazard, that the worker considers is likely to endanger the worker or any other person,
(f) cooperate with the joint committee or worker health and safety representative for the workplace, and
(g) cooperate with the Board, officers of the Board and any other person carrying out a duty under this Part or the regulations.
This is a full-time position
Salary of $30.00 to $40.00 plus per hour depending on experience
