Job Description
Join Vancouver Island University in this temporary role as Sessional Instructor, Mathematics and teach one or more courses in the Spring 2025 term (January to May).
In this role, you will teach one or more sections of
- MATH 121 Calculus I [4 lecture hours per week]
- MATH 132 Mathematics for Elementary Education II [4 lecture hours per week], two sections available
- MATH 203 Biometrics [3 lecture and 4 computer lab hours per week]

Duties include preparation of lectures, assignments, tests, grading of submitted work, and holding regular office hours. Courses are scheduled for face-to-face classroom delivery at the Nanaimo campus.
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Required Qualifications:
- MSc in mathematics or statistics from an appropriately accredited institution.
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
- Familiarity with learning management systems (D2L, Moodle, etc).
- For MATH 203, Experience with statistical software used for computer labs.
- Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and commitment to a team-based working culture.
- A commitment to, and understanding of, the importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom and workplace.
$8,196.30 per assigned course consisting of three workload hours. The rate for any courses requiring fewer or greater hours shall be prorated based on this standard.
