The Role
As the Clinical Lead (Licensed Psychologist) for this program, you would be responsible for the integrity and quality of training residents receive through a diverse range of administrative and clinical responsibilities. These would include the ongoing organization, implementation and evaluation of this nationally accredited program, in addition to the clinical supervision of residents' work with children, youth and families.
This administrative role includes many responsibilities, including but not limited to, the following:
In addition to their administrative responsibilities, the Clinical Lead (Licensed Psychologist) may also take on or supplement the clinical supervision of residents to ensure they are receiving high quality training that is consistent with their goals and the development of core competencies in clinical and counseling psychology. As theClinical Lead (Licensed Psychologist), you may be required to oversee the following:
In addition to the administrative and supervisory responsibilities that directly support the residency program, the Clinical Lead (Licensed Psychologist) role has also included the recruitment and supervision of unregistered or early career psychologists in the process of registration, the supervision of solo psychologists working in remote areas of British Columbia, and the recruitment and supervision of masters and doctoral level practicum students.This position requires direct clinical practice, including carrying clients as outlined in the Job Profile.

The South Island Pre-Doctoral Residency Program in Clinical and Counseling Psychology was established in 2003 as a pre-eminent training program for doctoral residents in clinical and counseling psychology who are seeking careers in community-based child and youth mental health.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.

- ensuring adequate financial, administrative and professional support for the program
- ensuring the availability of equipment, facilities and resources
- maintaining membership with external organizations (e.g. CPA, APPIC, CCPPP)
- responsible for communication and consultation with internal and external stakeholders
- overseeing trainee recruitment, selection and retention
- advocating for social responsiveness and retention of program supervisors and students
- representing the programs interests within the South Island and CYMH
- participating in provincial/national organizations that support professional psychology training
- organizing, administering and improving the training program
- implementing program's training model; ensuring compliance with CPA accreditation standards
- leading program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives
- soliciting and integrating trainee feedback and evaluation
- leading the revision and re-development of program materials and goals as needed
- monitoring trainee progress and addressing any trainee concerns
- maintaining trainee records and responding to verification requests from training sites, employers and licensing bodies as needed
- collecting, storing and managing all program data
- writing annual reports, preparing self-studies and leading accreditation site visits every 3-7 years
- liaison and collaboration with other residency programs in BC and elsewhere
In addition to their administrative responsibilities, the Clinical Lead (Licensed Psychologist) may also take on or supplement the clinical supervision of residents to ensure they are receiving high quality training that is consistent with their goals and the development of core competencies in clinical and counseling psychology. As theClinical Lead (Licensed Psychologist), you may be required to oversee the following:
- cases involving a wide range of ages (typically 4-19 years of age)
- cases involving a wide range of clinical concerns (including internalizing and externalizing concerns in addition to more severe forms of mental illness)
- a wide range of assessment approaches and foci (e.g. psychoeducational, socio-emotional, ADHD, personality, diagnostic etc)
- a wide range of treatment modalities (individual, group, family, parent) and approaches (CBT, DBT, IPT, ACT, MI, attachment based, trauma focused etc)
- work with multicultural, Indigenous and other clients representing a range of individual, social and cultural diversity factors
- the integration of ethical and professional issues into supervision

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Ph.D. in Clinical/Applied Psychology, Counselling Psychology, OR PsyD, AND *registered with, or eligible for, registration with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia as a Psychologist.
- *Note: If you are registered as a psychologist in another province, equivalencies for out of province applicants may be considered by the College of Psychologists of BC. Please contact the association for registration requirements in BC.
- Completion of a psychological pre- or post-doctoral internship of 1600 hours in a child and youth mental health or hospital setting with specialization in formal psychological assessment, diagnoses, and treatment of mental health disorders.
- Experience in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology.
- Minimum of 4 years' full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Preference may be given to applicants with 5 or moreyears of experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as having an Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
