Leader, Specialist Services Committee & Shared Care Committee

Reporting to the Director, Medical Staff Development Initiatives, the Leader, SSC and SCC will support engagement between Specialists, Family Physicians and PHSA through the development, implementation, management, and evaluation of initiatives or strategies that are supported by the Specialist Services Committee (SSC) or the Shared Care Committee (SCC), embedded in PHSA. Strategies may include, but are not limited to, supporting projects that enhance coordination of care for patients with complex and longitudinal care needs and/or supporting Specialists as leaders in quality improvement and innovation. Additional accountability for deliverables will be to the Specialist Services Committee and the Shared Care Committee.

The Specialist Services Committee (SSC) was formed in 2006 under the Physician Master Agreement to help the Doctors of BC, BC government and health authorities collaborate on the delivery of specialist services and support improvement of the specialist care system in BC.

The Shared Care Committee (SCC) was formed in 2006 as part of the Physician Master Agreement. The mandate of Shared Care is to improve shared care between Family Physicians, Specialist Physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

What you'll do

Function: Connects to improve collaboration between people and teams across PHSA, physicians, and SSC / Shared Care Teams.
  • Identifies, advises, and brings together the individuals with the appropriate scope of work and supports to discuss relevant opportunities; identifies presenters / presentations for relevant senior tables.
  • Facilitates meetings with the intent of supporting cooperation among people, agencies, and organizations.
  • Identifies challenges in communications among the various groups and flags to appropriate manager for escalation.
  • Responsible for sharing relevant SSC / Shared Care information with PHSA partners and for SSC / Shared Care to receive relevant PHSA updates that are not already occurring through established meetings / tables, such as the regional QI steering committees.

Function: Navigates to improve access and understanding for physicians, PHSA partners and SSC / Shared Care teams
  • Concierges / facilitates access for PHSA to the SSC / Shared Care initiatives and the SSC / Shared Care teams to PHSA.
  • Navigates opportunities & structures - SSC / Shared Care initiatives / navigates PHSA organizational structure and leadership for staff and physicians.
  • Aware of and current on all JCC funded activities.

Function: Communicates to improve awareness and understanding of opportunities (current / future) & impact (results)
  • Works with PHSA Communications teams to develop communication plan:
  • SSC & Shared Care physician funding opportunities.
  • PHSA opportunities for physicians.
  • Coordinates distribution of communications within PHSA, within SSC and Shared Care.
  • Consolidates data/reporting to communicate impact to wider audiences.
  • When relevant, facilitates the integration of SSC/SCC initiatives into PHSA operations.
  • Works with the analyst / evaluators to demonstrate and elevate the impact of the work.
  • Synthesizes information from data, reports or other deliverables to curate for the audience.
  • Providing the 'so-what', guidance and next steps.

What you bring

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience, in a discipline related to health, business, or research and five (5) years' recent related experience in managing complex projects. Research and/or evaluation skills, report writing and budgeting skills required.
  • Experience in quality improvement methodologies an asset. Knowledge of the BC health care system and health authorities an asset. Experience working with physicians, health care providers and support staff an asset. Experience in implementing change management strategies an asset. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Adept at balancing major concurrent tasks and projects with attention to detail and is proactive and solutions oriented. Excellent judgment in setting priorities, identifying issues, and determining action required when working under pressure and deadlines. MS Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and MS Project. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents - including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study - and how they intersect across the health care system.
  • Supports team members on their learning journey related to Indigenous-specific Anti-racism, Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility, DEI and anti-racism.
  • Works collaboratively with appropriate Indigenous teams and Diversity Equity and Inclusion departments to ensure holistic application of culturally safe, equitable and anti-racist lenses.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

Salary Range: $88,990 - $127,923 /year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate's relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
