Schedule Description
DUTIES

Provides training, leadership, and mentorship to IT Analysts, and liaises with other groups and departments. Delivers complete life-cycle computer system hardware and software configuration, installation, maintenance, support, training, and advice.


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Trains, coordinates, monitors, and mentors the work of IT Analysts, work study/coop students and contractors.
  2. Responsible for high priority special projects decided on by the IT Analyst group including researching, developing, testing, documenting, training, and implementation.
  3. IT representative for the projects liaising with other departments.
  4. Analyzes current systems and brings concerns to Supervisor, IT Client Services & Manager, IT Client Services.
  5. Responsible for implementing new services systems (eg. Upgrade print servers, Implementing deployment systems for software and image deployment).
  6. Ensures maintenance schedule is adhered to (systems and processes).
  7. Establishes, configures, implements, and administers effective and efficient procedures for imaging and deployment of office productivity and educational software applications to client computers.
  8. Responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting the client computing device infrastructure which includes:
    • Maintaining the standard workstation build procedure and automated software distribution systems
    • Packaging all new software to be distributed via the software distribution system
    • Maintaining all software applications hosted on the network
    • Testing and certifying all new hardware and software
  9. Escalates major IT problems to the appropriate area within IT Services.
  10. Oversees upgrades, patches and policies for existing software applications including assessment, configuration, scripting, virtualization, application packaging, testing and deployment.
  11. Oversees technical support for complex requests and problems related to the deployment of university or departmental licensed software.
  12. Uses remote tools to access client computer and take corrective action or installation to resolve a problem.
  13. Develops and implements remote installation and maintenance practices.
  14. Integrates application upgrades and new software packages onto computer images.
  15. Provides technical consultation and support to clients in all technology environments on IT-related tasks and/or projects; ensures that projects meet standard requirements to integrate properly with the campus computing environment.
  16. Researches, evaluates, and documents new software applications and operational procedures.
  17. Maintains information on the ITS Website
  18. Analysis and troubleshooting of complex problems with existing systems and implements solutions by replacing hardware components and/or modifying configurations.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Grade 12 plus two-year post-secondary Computing Diploma or equivalent


EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years direct related experience in the field in a medium to large-scale computing environment
  • Two years direct experience including:
    • As an IT Analyst
    • Supervisory/leadership role
    • Experience in a fast-paced environment where exceptional service and customer satisfaction is a key element
    • Experience in face-to-face technical support


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

  • Ability to coordinate, plan and organize work of others
  • Demonstrated performance and leadership qualities
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to exercise considerable independent action
  • Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail; especially when creation of training materials
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy
  • Knowledge and experience with the following Microsoft products: Windows Deployment Toolkit and Services, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Group Policy Management Console
  • Knowledge of MS Windows, Windows Server, Mac OS, Android, VMWare virtualized environments, networked environments, computer hardware and peripherals, and other learning environment technologies and ability to troubleshoot and maintain all technologies
  • Experience with the creation of application packaging and virtualization
  • Experience and understanding of Windows Image Files, Apple Imaging and Application tools, and deployment technologies
  • Ability to maintain currency of technical knowledge to enable support of fast-paced changing environments
  • Knowledge and ability to develop and modify modern scripting languages such as Powershell


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Sitting at desk and computer for long periods of time
  • Travel by foot to office, lab or classrooms in various campus locations in all weather conditions with equipment
  • Exposure to unclean conditions in client areas, eg. under desks, keyboards, dust within computers
  • Ability to lift weights exceeding 20 kg
  • Occasional exposure to difficult client situations
The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
Pay Band
$34.52 - $38.35 ( CUPE Grade 10 (90% - 100%) )
Salary rate
This Position is not subject to a 90% start rate for new Employees.
