Job Description
As a Junior Building Sciences Technologist, you'll be involved in both in-office and extensive field work, primarily focusing on building condition assessment services. Our team supports a diverse range of clients, including strata, government, institutional investors, and building owners, providing pre-purchase advice and capital planning. While assessments are typically conducted in the Vancouver area, regular travel within and outside the province, often requiring overnight stays, is expected. You'll have exposure to restoration work as it is also part of the role due to the department's broader services.

Expected Salary (all locations): $53,100 to $73,000

What you can expect to do here:
- Dive into property condition assessments and craft detailed depreciation reports, combining hands-on site work with meticulous report preparation.
- Shape the future with capital plans, projecting building expenditures and ensuring financial foresight.
- Collaborate on building investigation reports and construction documents, bringing your expertise to the table.
- Explore and analyze buildings through thorough investigations and field reviews, identifying design and repair solutions.
- Embark on non-invasive investigations, which might involve ladder work, heights, confined spaces, and precise field measurements.
- Visit construction sites, capturing observations and field-testing results to ensure quality and compliance.
- Enrich our knowledge management systems, sharing insights and best practices with the team.
- Travel for short-term assignments, embracing the opportunity to work in diverse locations as needed.
What you'll bring to WSP:
- You have some experience in building science, site activities or a related engineering field.
- You hold a College Diploma in Engineering or an engineering degree in Civil, Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, Architectural Science, or a construction-related discipline.
- You are registered or eligible for registration with ASTTBC or EGBC.
- You possess knowledge of building materials, construction processes, structures, and mechanical and electrical systems.
- You have the ability to gather and diagnose information, interpret data, and read drawings.
- You demonstrate strong self-organization skills.
- You are an excellent communicator, with strong verbal and written skills.
- You are proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- You have experience in Consulting Engineering, conducting building assessments, or a related field (this is an asset).
