What you can expect to do here:

Reporting to the BC Occupational Hygiene and Safety Group Manager, your responsibilities will include but won't necessarily be limited to:
  • Visually assessing buildings for various hazardous materials including asbestos, lead, PCBs, mercury components, ozone-depleting substances, and suspect visible microbial growth and collecting bulk samples of suspect hazardous materials for laboratory analysis.
  • Preparing hazardous materials building materials assessment reports.
  • Developing hazardous materials management plans, safe work procedures, abatement specifications, and exposure control plans.
  • Conducting hazardous materials condition assessments.
  • Conducting hazardous material abatement/remediation inspections and air monitoring and preparing daily reports / project completion reports.
  • Assisting with completion of other occupational hygiene projects, under the supervision and direction of a Certified Industrial Hygienist.
  • Assisting clients with asset assessments, data management and compliance issues related to regulated materials

This position requires local and regional travel and regular out-of-town assignments up to two weeks in duration. Assignments will at times be in remote areas and under physically demanding conditions. Work could be indoors or outdoors. Light to moderate lifting may be required.

What you'll bring to WSP:
  • Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental diploma / certificate / degree an asset
  • 3 to 8 years' experience in health and safety / hazardous materials required
  • Hazardous materials training. WorkSafeBC Level S Surveyor Safety Training Certificate required. Other hazardous materials training (e.g. AHERA Building Inspector Course, Alberta Asbestos Worker Course, Hazardous Materials Technician Course, Lead Inspector and Risk Assessor Course, Mould Assessment and Remediation Course, etc.) an asset
  • Experience in the consulting industry an asset
  • Unrestricted Class 5 Driver's License valid in British Columbia, personal vehicle and a good driving record (drivers abstract required)
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to technical excellence
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skill
  • Ability to adapt and work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Flexibility with respect to remote work and travel.
  • Willing and able to work rotational shifts, including being away from home for up to two weeks at a time. (one / two week out of town work on long term rotation).

Salary range (in British Columbia): $62,000 - $86,200

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
