About the Organization

Created in 2008 and privately held, Harmac Pacific Pulp operates a Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft pulp mill on the east coast of Vancouver Island near Nanaimo, BC. Nanaimo Forest Products (NFP) Ltd., the owner of the Harmac Pacific trademark, restarted the mill with a single production line on October 3, 2008. Since that time the mill has grown to two production lines and a capacity of 380,000 tonnes of world-class pulp per year.

Key to Harmac’s success is the employee ownership model. Our employees are very active participants in the running of the business and have 2 members that they appoint to the company’s 6 seats on its Board of Directors. 

The future of Harmac Pacific Pulp is looking bright. Through extensive capital investments, the organization has made significant improvements to productivity and reliability. In addition, as of 2013, the installation has been complete of a 25 MW Green Energy turbo-generator which we currently use to sell power to BC Hydro.

About the Opportunity

Harmac Pacific currently has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team in Nanaimo, B.C. The successful candidate will be working 4 days a week, with 10 hour shifts.

As our new Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will work as part of an integrated maintenance team that provides the full range of maintenance support for our pulp and power businesses.  

About You

To qualify for this role, you possess an Interprovincial Heavy Duty Mechanic trades qualificationand a sound base of knowledge and experience in the maintenance of industrial mobile equipment including Bulldozers, Loaders, Clamp Trucks, Cranes, Dump Trucks, and Forklifts. Experience with (Cat ET) and Cat (SIS) programs is preferredYou must also be extremely organized, and able to work well independently, and as part of a team. Candidates with skills in welding, refrigeration, and other related trades skills will find that our work environment provides an opportunity to expand and refine those skills. 

We are looking for an individual who is interested in pursuing a career with our company and is open to contributing to the extent of their abilities. You are an independent self-starter, with strong interpersonal and communication skills. In addition, you are highly organized and adaptable to changes in the work environment.
