Job Summary

The Team

The Office of the Indigenous Child Welfare Director (ICWD) is a new division in the Ministry of Children and Family Development set up to shift and improve B.C.'s child welfare system and create changes that align with Indigenous rights, laws, and priorities as part of a joint jurisdiction model of service delivery. The division will provide leadership and advice for services to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit families delivered under the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA) and directly support the implementation of Indigenous jurisdiction.

The Role

Reporting up to the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) and Indigenous Child Welfare Director (ICWD), this position will provide secretarial and administrative services to the ADM and their office.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience


  • Grade 12 plus a certificate in office/business/public administration, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' of administrative experience working in a confidential office capacity.
  • Minimum 3 years' of experience providing executive administrative support at a progressively increasing responsibility level, including managing demanding executive calendars including booking meetings, scheduling appointments.
  • Minimum 2 years' of experience with booking and making travel arrangements.
  • Minimum 2 years' of experience establishing and maintaining operational and administrative procedures.
  • Minimum 2 years' of experience with facilitating meetings, including compiling and organizing meeting materials.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.


Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis), with the required combination of education and experience.
  • Applicants who self-identify as LGBTQ2S+, a Person with a Disability, and/or a Visible Minority, with the required combination of education and experience. Amendment (2024/11/06): Preference added
  • More experience in any of the above requirements.
  • Experience working with First Nations, Indigenous peoples and/or Indigenous Organizations.
  • Experience working in an executive office in Municipal, Provincial or Federal government.
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
  • Experience supporting a senior executive in the BC Public Service.
  • Experience with BC Public Service applications (e.g., iExpense, e-Approvals, TALM, CLIFF, RMS).
  • Experience drafting confidential and sensitive emails, briefing materials, reports.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work a hybrid schedule as per the Telework Agreement upon discussion with supervisor.
