Job Summary
The Team
We are excited to welcome new members to the Cariboo Fire Centre Dispatch team, comprised of one dispatch supervisor, one dispatch lead, and six dispatchers. Our established team plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of our crews and aircraft by working closely with aircraft personnel, operations staff, and fire centre teams. The Role
As a Dispatcher at the Cariboo Fire Centre, you will play a vital role in managing emergency response for wildfire situations across British Columbia. Your responsibilities will include receiving and responding to fire reports, handling radio communications, and monitoring safety procedures for personnel and equipment. This role requires exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently under pressure, as you'll be juggling multiple demands and time-sensitive requests throughout the day. About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity with possibility of recall on a yearly basis. This position may be extended or become permanent.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
Williams Lake has a rich history regarding the Cariboo gold rush, and is located in a valley in the Interior Plateau of Central BC. Whitewater rafting and single-track mountain biking are unique activities available in Williams Lake. The Williams Lake Stampede is one of the biggest rodeos in Western Canada and pays tribute to its ranching history.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent
Preference may be given to candidates:
- who can demonstrate an accurate typing speed of 50 words per minute or greater
- experience working in a demanding environment with strict timelines
- experience working in an office and team setting
- experience in records management or filing
- experience in emergency response or dispatch
- experience working with computers and digital systems
- experience working with Microsoft Office suite
Provisos /Willingness statement(s)
- Valid driver licence
- To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures
- To keep current on emerging issues
- To take in-house training and certification as required
- To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
- To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
- To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
- To participate in ICS positions as assigned
- To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions
