Job Summary

The Team
The Provincial Wildfire Reporting Centre team at the BC Wildfire Service plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of British Columbians by supporting wildfire and flood prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. This diverse team of up to 20 individuals works within the Communication and Engagement program, collaborating across various levels of government and communities. With a focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion, the team values varied perspectives and backgrounds, fostering an environment where all voices are heard and contribute to the collective goal of protecting and supporting communities.

The Role
The Provincial Wildfire Reporting Centre (PWRC) Clerk plays a vital role in providing client service and administrative support for the PWRC, which operates year-round as the Province's first line of communication for wildfire reports and other natural hazard incidents. This role involves interacting with the public, ensuring information is captured accurately, and helping inform BC Wildfire Service operations during emergency response efforts. The PWRC Clerk will work in an inclusive and diverse environment where all perspectives are respected, and every team member contributes to making critical decisions that help protect communities from natural hazards.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Grade 12 or equivalent plus 1 year administrative experience
  • Experience operating a variety of computer applications and/or office procedures including a typing proficiency of 40 words per minute or higher
  • Experience effectively communicating in writing and verbally


Preference may be given to candidates with:
  • One year of customer service experience
  • Experience in a high-volume contact centre/call centre/reporting centre environment that requires calls and/or mobile reports to be queued and prioritized for response based on level of urgency
  • Experience working on a team with a rotating schedule of shift work, including overnight shifts
  • Experience with BC geography including place names and landmarks

  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures
  • To keep current on emerging issues
  • To take in-house training and certification as required
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
  • To participate in ICS positions as assigned
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions

This temporary (auxiliary) opportunity starts in approximately March 2025 and ends in November 2025, with possibility of recall on a yearly basis.
This position may be extended or become permanent.
