The Team
The Commercial Transport Enforcement Officer (CTEO) team is dedicated to ensuring the safety and compliance of commercial vehicles on British Columbia's highways through collaborative enforcement of transportation regulations and thorough inspections. With an established team of 5 CTEOs on Vancouver Island, the team values integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to service. CTEOs work closely with other enforcement personnel, supervisors, road safety coordinators, and external stakeholders, making a critical impact on protecting highway infrastructure and enhancing the overall safety of the transportation network. The team's camaraderie fosters a supportive environment that encourages innovative ideas and solutions, ultimately making a real difference in the communities we serve.
The Role
The Commercial Transport Enforcement Officer (CTEO) role plays a crucial part in public safety by enforcing compliance within the Transportation Act and Regulations. This position involves conducting vehicle inspections, issuing violation tickets, and advising operators on compliance issues, while also managing inspection stations and coordinating roadside checks. By ensuring that commercial vehicles are roadworthy and meet safety standards, officers reduce the risk of accidents, enhancing overall highway safety for all citizens. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
- Experience providing customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience interpreting and applying policy and/or procedures.
- Valid BC Class 5 (minimum) Driver's Licence in good standing with no more than nine (9) points within the last five (5) year period with no suspensions or prohibitions.
- Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the Ministry. Note: it is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- One (1) year or more of experience in Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and/or applicants who are Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance certified.
- Experience in Road Transportation or Law Enforcement.
- Experience interpreting and applying acts, regulations, and legislation.
- Experience delivering and conducting presentations and seminars.
